Can See Port Under Skin

Recommended Posts

Tomorrow it will be 2 weeks since my surgery, I have lost 13 pounds so far since the pre diet most of which I lost during that time. Have no resistance in band yet, my dr waits at least 3 weeks to a month post surgery. My question is I can see the port and feel it under my skin especially when I'm laying down, is this the norm?

I don't know where my doctor put my port. Its only 2 days post op for me but i tried to feel for it and could not. In fact I don't know what size of band he put inside. I see him on a after surgery followup, on Aug 21.

Mine is placed on my breast bone, it is more common in the UK to be sited here as it is fixed to bone so doesnt move as much and doesnt get in the way if you have abdominoplasty , tt and bodylift like i had .. it does stick out a lot since the weight was lost but its hidden by my bra so no one can see it except me :)

Over my belly button a little to the right. I'm very short so it's really under my breast bone too. Not much room there lol. Jr I just now got to where I could find it, my stomach has been so swollen I looked pregnant for a while, still some swelling but most of it's gone. Other than having an allergic reactiion to the bandages and being broke out & itchy I feel pretty good.

Mine is just below my sternum (breast bone), but I have a friend whose port is just to the right of her belly button. I can feel mine standing or laying flat. I haven't lost enough to see it, but that may be possible after more weight comes off. Since I'm not really a bikini kinda girl I could care less.

You're probably still swollen up a bit which may keep you from feeling it. I couldn't find mine until I went in for my first fill and the Nurse found it.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
