Anyone Have, "bad," Band Days??

Recommended Posts

This happens to me quite often. Some days I can eat absolutely ANYTHING I want no matter how bad or good it is, how dense or lean it is, etc. Other days however, I have, "bad," band days where I cannot eat ANYTHING without getting it stuck. I will try to drink coffee first thing out of bed to try and loosen my band, but nothing, smoothies, yogurt, cottage cheese, tuna - nothing even liquids are difficult. I'm writing to see if this happens to anyone else or just me? Right now I'm actually getting a bit concerned because I have not been able to eat anything since Saturday. I don't feel the pain I normally do when I'm stuck, just the pressure. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Wow! I definitely have days that my band is super tight and I can barely get my Protein Shake down, but that usually only lasts through the morning hours. Once I'm up and moving around it loosens up. I never have days that I can eat ANYTHING. I wish, haha. There are days that some things go down a little easier, but still can't eat much. It's normal for it to fluctuate, but I think yours is a little extreme. Not eating for 4 days is not good. Def call your doc!

I have bad days like that but I can ALWAYS get liquids down. Lots of days I can't get anything down and I think it's kind of strange, too. Have you called your doctor? You may be trying to eat the wrong things that don't pass through the band very well? Sometimes, I figure out the hard way that the new food I tried to eat won't go down so I check that off of my list. I have read lots of posts on here that it could be...stress, weather, that time of the month? Lots of things impact your band......it's crazy.

That's fairly common, so you're not alone. Variable restriction is part of the band package, because we're all living, breathing human beings whose bodies are affected by time of day, time of month, hydration, medications, stress, etc. etc.

You may be prolonging the "can't eat anything" periods without even realizing it. When you have a stuck episode or other eating problem, don't continue trying to eat that meal. Stop eating and follow a liquid diet for at least 24 hours to let everything inside calm down again. If you don't give yourself that break, every additional bite of food you take will prolong the irritation and inflammation, so you end up in a never-ending cycle of eating problems.

If that doesn't help, talk to your surgeon about it.

I have days where I struggle with absolutely everything. I actually got Water stuck once and had to get rid of it. I just live with it, figure I'll lose more cause I have such a huge calorie dip that day.

I had a 1/4cc fill last Tuesday, an on vacation in Vegas, and some things I was eating last week just aren't going down. I call this my toddler band behavior!!!! So, tried to eat half of an in and out bunless burger...didn't happen! Slimed up and had to opt for a MetRx Protein gelato shake at a mall. Disappointed? Sure. Trial and error. I know my body enough now that at least two weeks after a fill, I have difficulty. But I can get liquids down. Don't use a straw you probably know this. Yesterday I had chopped up deli turkey and muenster cheese for lunch and it went down just fine. Have you had a recent fill?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
