Had Surgery Alone In Mexico?

Recommended Posts

Hi --

I posted this before, but I may have not been as specific as I should have been.....I'm not so much worried about the travel as I am about the actual surgery, and being alone in the hotel after the lap-band has been placed. I have the surgery on August 27 with Dr. Ortiz in Tijuana.

Has anyone else done this on their own?

Thank you so much,

Blue

I'm having surgery aug 28th with dr almanza in Tijuana alone. But i found a surgery buddy on verticalsleevetalk.com whose going to be there with me. you might get on that forum and try to find someone having surgery with dr ortiz that day. There's alot more people scheduled for vsg than lapband most days... it's the latest thing in mexico i guess. which hotel are you staying at? i'll be at the hampton inn in San Diego the 27th, 29th stay in touch...

There are 4 of us in van headed to Dr Almanza. I don't feel alone at all. These ladies are awesome and we have much in common, and one husband here to support us. 2 bands, 2 sleeves. We arrive in 45 mins. I'll keep you posted.

I had the band and all is good. Ready to go. The sleeve people are good, have a little gas but seem chipper.

24 hours post op. flying home. Having some gas issues but no pain meds needed so far. Dr. Almanza was great and staff was awesome. Hospital was exceptionally clean. :-)

Fernandina- so great to hear you are doing good! I am going saturday. Most worried about the pre surgery diet. Work is going to be so much fun without eating. Ha ha. Keep updating us and I will do the same.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Anyone had the TORe procedure? How did it go? How much weight did you loose?

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
