Is It Ever Too Much!?

Recommended Posts

So, I know the docs say that losing 2lbs a week is great! ...and I am pretty much on that path, thankfully. I was just curious what everyone else is losing and what their opinions are as far as what you would like to be losing. Most of my WLS friends are bypassers and have a completely different weight loss experience. Answer the few questions below and lets get an average!

Starting weight: 276

Current weight: 203

Surgery date: 10/07/11

Total weight loss: 73lbs

Weeks since surgery: 43 weeks

Average weekly weight loss (lbs/weeks=average): 1.7lbs per week

Do you think you are doing good or would you like to do better? Better! Better! Better!

Let me know!!

Shellee

Well it can't come off fast enough for me! My surgeon said he would be pleased with a 1 lb loss every 7-10 days, so I don't feel like the bar is set too high by him but by myself, it's pretty high up there!

Starting weight: 243

Current weight: 193

Surgery date: 5/18/12

Total weight loss: 50 lbs

Weeks since surgery: 11 Weeks

Average weekly weight loss (lbs/weeks=average): 4.5 lbs

Keep in mind though, I'm just (hopefully) coming off a two week plateau. The scale sat at 194._ for two weeks, and this morning I was finally back down at 193. I've been lucky to lose like I have so far but I have a feeling it's slowing down.

I haven't honestly worked out AT ALL since my surgery, and I drink kind of a lot... so the caloric intake of my drinks is terrible. However, I plan on starting to walk 30 - 60 minutes every day, starting today, because I would like to speed up the process a bit!

Starting weight: 370

Current weight: 318

My surgery date: 3/23/12

Total lost: 52 pounds

Heck, I'm sure everyone would like to do better, even those dropping A LOT per week! I think it's the human disposition to be impatient and want it now, I know I do :)

Wow! That's a lot of weight loss! What are you doing? I also plateaued for about 3 weeks and just lost 2 lbs in the last couple days. It's crazy!

I'm glad to hear that everyone is in the same frame of mind as me! I want it gone! When I don't lose in a week, I get so frustrated. ...or when I hear my bypass buddy has lost 130lbs (compared to my 72) and her surgery was only days after mine. My hubby says not to compare because her surgery is a lot different and we are different people (not to mention she has had some complications from the excessive short term weight loss), but it's hard! I would love to be under 200 and then to lose 100 lbs! That would be amazing. =)

Shellabee - Honestly, I'm just following my surgeons rules. I base my meals on Protein first, then veggies, then fruit. If I need a snack I'll do one of the pre-packaged slices of cheese (80 cals.) I drink between 100-120 mls of Water every day. I also jog/run for at least 20 minutes and do some calnistetics (sit ups, push ups, yoga ball exercises) for 10 minutes every day.

I feel very blessed that I've gone down lbs so quickly, but at the same time, I don't FEEL at all inside that I am any different...such a struggle. I don't want to reward my loss until I hit my goal.

I started at 244 lbs

Surgery date 6/22/12

Current Weight 221

23 lbs lost at 6 weeks out

I don't feel like that is enough. However, my doctor tells me I am doing great. My band only has 2.5cc's and I have little to no restriction. I do eat more than the 1 cup, but I do stay full longer. I am staying with the calorie count recommended by the nutritionist and working out. To begin with I was losing weight FAST, now I have slowed to about 1-2 lbs a week which I feel like is nothing. I do go back for my 2nd fill next week and am hoping for more restriction and being able to eat less and stay satisfied longer.

A lot of people talk about Protein shakes being Breakfast. If I just do a shake for Breakfast I am starving in an hour. I have to have food.

I agree! I never feel like there is a change! My hubby is always saying how amazing the transformation is, I just can't see it! I convince myself that I could have worn a 14 a year ago, I just didn't try. I can't wait until I start seeing it!

I think you def just need a fill. I can barely get my Protein Shake down in the morning. I have to take small sips. Mind you, by lunch I am starving. It usually lasts from about 7am to 11am and then the hunger starts. I do lunch at noon and that usually satisfies me until about 4pm. Funny enough, after dinner I never get hungry! It's weird. I think my body is also being retrained.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Had a sleeve in 2017, lost over 100 pounds. Had a DS surgery this year (2025) for more sustainable weight loss. 🤞

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
