Just spoke with receptionist at Dr. Almanza's office found that he charges extra 800.00 to repair Hiatal Hernia in addition to lapband. I feel this is reasonable, I don't know if I even have a hernia, but it is very prevalent in my family and I have some of the symptoms. Just wanted to know ahead of time about the cost. It has to be paid at time of paying for surgery.

At nyu it’s the same price, the surgeon makes you sign paper work that if she finds a hernia you are authorizing her to fix it….same out of pocket cost to the patient but I wonder if they get more money from the insurance company??

I'm carrying around a "secret" band too. I went thru 2 years trying to get the band, and had real doubts about being approved by TRICARE insurance along with Medicare, but finally did it! I was banded July 25, 2012.

I have yo-yo dieted, phen fen, Medifast, weight watchers, more diet pills, you name it i did it. Sounds familiar? I know this is just a tool and I have to do the controlling in all phases. Anyone who thinks this will work AND keep on working all by itself is way off the mark. It is also a personal health choice. Nobody but me can know what it takes to make it work. I, personally, want to avoid further judgment on my weight. I'm doing what I consider my last chance at good health. I'm 69 years, diagnosed with diabetes, high blood pressure, was in A-fib, bad knees, lower back pain, etc. when people notice weight loss, hope...hope, I'll just say I'm watching what I eat and using that dusty treadmill. All true. Banding was my choice and keeping the procedure to myself and my signifigant other is one choice that was mine, totally. To each his own and good healthy choices to you all.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
