Anyone Flown To And From Tj Alone?

Recommended Posts

I'm about to schedule a lap-band with Dr. Ortiz on Monday, August 27.

My husband is so backed-up at work, I don't think he can come with me.

Has anyone flown to TJ and back alone? How did you feel after surgery? And is the Marriott really super-clean? I'm scared I'll see some big cockroach or moth and FREAK OUT all alone! :D:lol::D

Do you have aftercare organized at home? Do you have a local doctor who will do your fills? Many surgeons won't do fills for people who had the band put in in Mexico.

My husband went with me. I almost went alone, but I am glad he came with. Physically it is certainly possible, (I felt great post-op & went back to work 3 days later) but for peace of mind alone, I think it is a good idea to have someone with.

Hang in there with the constructive criticism about having your procedure done in Mexico.......

You know what is best for you, and I think most responsible adults do their homework before making such a big decision. I you have any more questions, I would be glad to help. :)

I also had my surgery in Mexico but a different doctor. I was not alone but just giving my opinion... I think it can be done alone. I would recommend trying to pack light and in something wheeled. At the airport, you can tell them that you would like assistance at your destination and they will contact your destination airport and meet you with a wheel chair and push you to wherever you need to be. That was the only physically difficult part of the trip for me was walking through the airport.

Thanks, everyone. I'm going to have to go it alone, but this is all very helpful. :-)

I believe Dr. Ortiz will arrange for a pick up from the San Diego airport and drive you over the border if you would be more comfortable with that. I fly out of Tijuana quite a bit but unless you speak decent Spanish it's sometimes difficult to navigate.

The Marriott is as nice as most Marriotts.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
