Was just wondering wether it was fine to have coffee post op?

Iv heard many people get an upset stomach when they have hot coffee, but how about a frappucino, or an iced latté?

I drink 3 cups a day & it is my only vice. My physician has no problem with me drinking it and it doesn't irritate my stomach.

If you are going to drink coffee you need to make sure it is normal coffee without sugar, syrup or anything else added. A cup of coffee, black or with a splash of milk is not going to hurt. Those fancy coffees that are loaded with sugar, milk, cream etc will stop you achieving your goals. Remember you should not drink your calories.

This is one of the place's I fail. I have a love affair with iced Decaf. I'm at: Making my own decaf at home, using my "suggested" FF half and half, and until recently, DaVinci coffee Syrup. But I struggle with drive thru coffee places. But I love it so much, I mostly make my own. It's not the nicotene for me but the coffee experience. .One that I must watch.

I get a soy sugar free mocha often. What I have found is the soy, though not "low cal" is creamy and also a source of Protein. Ordering the sugar free mocha Syrup doesn't have the funny after taste that the regular syrups have... (In my opinion). You do have to get used to a new flavor of Mocha, but it is still rich and good and I still really like it. If i order a sugar-free with non fat milk, the non-fat milk is just watery and icky.

I drink coffee almost everyday. I find that I have a much better day with my lapband/eating when I start with coffee.

I either drink regular coffee with an equal and skim milk or I have a Skinny vanilla Latte from Starbucks. A grande has 130 calories, 0 fat, and 12 grams of Protein. Love it! If you are craving a sweet coffee loaded with sugar get the skinny vanilla latte and add an equal. You can get it hot or cold. I opt for the hot because that is what helps my band..,

I hope this helps!

My Nutritionist lets patients have coffe one week after surgery. Decaf is better so as not to get dehydrated, but I have between 2-3 cups a day. I need it in the am to "open" up my esophagus.

First off, in my post, I wrote

it's not the nicotene...", I don't smoke, why would that come up? I meant, "caffeine."

Second, doesn't both Decaf and caffeinated coffee dehydrate you?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
