August 13Th...anyone Else?

Recommended Posts

Hi! I've really been loving this app lol! I go in for surgery on August 13th! Anybody else getting surgery that day? Anybody else kinda freaking out? I hope I'm not the only one. I cried last night out of fear of failure. But it's made me feel a lot better seeing all the posts on here! Anybody that has any immediate post op tips would be greatly appreciated! I'm a little nervous about the recovery and what to expect...

I am getting surgery on Aug 6th, Monday. I am not nervous because I was in a dark place before this journey. I feel like I am turning a corner in my life. Just remember that you are doing something for your health and things can only get better from here. Surgery will be like a blink of an eye.

Oh I was going to have mine on the 6th but they moved my date :( yeah, I just gotta think about how awesome the results are (hopefully) going to be. Good luck with your surgery! I'm glad you're in a better place now and like you said, from here things can only get better! :)

My surgery is on the 13th too! I am excited and maybe a little nervous, mostly worried about the 'stuck' feeling....I hope that doesn't happen too often! Good luck to you!

Oh cool! Yeah I'm a little nervous about the 'stuck' feeling too...i'm more worried, though, about finding another doctor near where I go to college..I'm getting my surgery in NJ but I go to school in VA so I'm still trying to find someone to do follow up with :/ good luck with your surgery!! What time is yours? Mine is at 9am!

Don't worry about the surgery, the nurses are very excited about the weight loss surgery. I had a tv, meds button, the hardest part was not being able to drink until I got my upper GI test the next morning. The liquid I had to drink for that test was awful and I did feel nausea when I got back to my room, so the nurse did give me additional nausea meds. I was given a tip by a nurse in the preopt room and she said if they as if you have had motion sickness in the past, say YES and they will give you a patch in the back of your ear. So I did just that and she was right, I did not have to worry about nausea but a few time which was after the upper GI, which I think it was from the liquid I drank and the wheelchair ride and elevator ride after the test. The first nausea was my first walk after surgery and I did feel very naustious. they gave me naustea med then. If you track some of my blogs on my journey 7 days later you will see more tips after you came home. You will definitely need someone home with you for the first 3 day. I could not get up without a chair near and that was on day 4 and the first 3 days, I needed my husband. I could not do stairs for the 4 days doctor's orders.

I forgot to mention that the dry mouth is very bad, but the nurses gave me these fat q-tips with lemon liquid on it that really helped. I would rub it on my tougue gums, sides of mouth etc. and it really helped. Once I had my upper GI they gave me 1/2 cup of fruit juice 2 twice and then waiting and 3 hours later they let me go home.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
