okay so i am only 6 days postop but i am starting to regret getting my band! being so young, i am nervous about complications and band erosion/adherence etc... i know i need to give it a chance and all but i feel like a two yr old throwing a tantrum bc i want it out! i guess i will feel better once i am able to actually chew something but this is awful! additionally, i feel this tightness in my chest and a lump in my throat allll the time!! it's horrible! i just have this feeling that ive made a mistake in getting the band :/ its a terrible feeling to have...

however i will say im sure i will like the results once i am able to really experience the band. i see a lot of success stories but im also worried bout the excess skin! i dont want a million cosmetic surgeries! why the heck do some people get to eat anything without gaining an ounce!!!! lol

lastly i will admit ive realiZed how much i used to eat just bc i wanted to and not bc i was hungry! since i cant eat and im on full liquids, i do feel like i want to eat everything in sight lol but ive noticed that i want everything even if im not hungry! such an eye opener! its crazy to think i used to order whatever came with the biggest portion just to have the most and eat in excess bc i wanted to have it before it was gone and now it will be about actual taste and health, not portions! thats the biggest realization ive had and since i am a food addict, i dont like the thought of this yet but thats part of the mental relearning!

anyway just needed to rant i suppose?! frustrations from a newly banded 24 y/o new mom! lol

You may go through many emotional feelings. This is normal. Please if your emotions go wacky see your pcp. or pysch. It's ok to feel these ways, just be sure to watch your health.

May Our Lord guide you. Try to think positive.

I am at 4 weeks post op....i went through all your same emotions. Day three was a complete break down day....I thought I made the biggest mistake ever! Day 6 I started researching and scared myself so bad that I barely wanted to eat cuz I was scared I would mess up my band.....I cried so many times! Today I feel so much better.....I'm happy again about my decision on getting lap band. Of course I still am scared of messing it up or not losing but each day my worries lesson some. Hang in there dont believe eveything u read and follow the rules and I think u won't regret your decision down the road!

What you have written about is normal...you are going through many physical adjustments, and hormone levels are gyrating as well. Mood swings are normal during this time of initial healing...and I do remember me asking myself "what the h#%* did you do to yourself??

The required diets for the pre op and post op times were the worst time for me...and it does get better as the days go by.

The new awareness of your eating patterns that you also wrote about will serve you well as you continue on your weight loss journey. Remember that your relationship with food does need to change; and awareness of the problematic eating behaviors which contributed to your weight gain is the first step to that process of change.

This journey is a process and not an event...there will be some days that are better than others. Keep yourself focused on your goals, and take a day at a time.

Best wishes...

I think most of us have gone through what you are right now. I remember waking up a couple days after surgery, with horrible gas pains, thinking "oh my gosh, what the heck have I done to myself?" I have met many on here that have gone through a similar emotional roller coaster, too.

Just remind yourself that soon you will feel good again and you won't be on the liquid diet forever.

Hang in there, it does get better!

It is a HUGE adjustment, so many things that will change different aspects of your life...It does get better...that's awesome that you've come to these realizations...I was the same...watching others eat the same portions I used to gets me everytime, I'm floored at the excessive amount of food I used to consume...also, about a monthout started noticing I was sad, kinda down, in a funk...I realized that the awesome feeling I used to get from pigging out, would never be felt like that again...it was a sense of loss...I allowed myself a day to grieve, and then moved along...I'm loving the changes in my everyday life, the extra energy, my body's NEED for exercise, the dropping of pounds, overall sense of well being...it was a great choice for me...Do they offer support groups in your area? That may be of great help to you...

that sensation, tightness, lump in throat is the lapband. Are you drinking too fast? If you are on soft foods you need to eat very slowly, put your fork/spoon down after every bite and STOP eating when you feel this fullness. Remember why you had the surgery to lose weight and get ahold of your eating problems. It is not an easy road but stick to it and you will succeed.

I am right there with you. I am almost two weeks out and I cry every day telling my mom who had the lap band as well two days after me that I just want it out already. My mom is fine she acts like if she didn't even have surgery. But not me. I have pain every day. I have that lump in my throat as well and now I even had to go for a CT scan because I was having extreme pain in my belly button my dr. Thinks I might have a hernia in one of my incisions. I am so miserable everybody tells me to hang in there and that it will get better. But I am miserable, depressed all I wanna do is sleep and I cry all the time. I just want it out!!!

Wow finally I found someone that is going thru what I feel! The lump in my throat all the time and feeling of regret. I was banned 6/26/12 and I must say things are getting better slowly. The tightness and lump in my throat feeling is still there but as you start healing from everything else, you start to feel better not only physically but emotionally. the feeling of regret is almost gone, as I see weight loss. best wishes, it does get better. Stay strong keep us posted. I would really like to know what your MD says about the tightness/lump in throat feeling.

sharklove82: Im glad someone else is feeling this way, also! You are a bit further in your journey and I hope to feel better about my decision in a month but it is quite hard right now. i would tell you to keep your head up and put forth your best effort, but i would also be contradicting myself! so, i guess i hope it gets better for the both of us! i will keep you updated on what the doctor says!

lilbit182004: im so sorry you are having such pains! i cannot imagine! i suppose I am lucky in that I havent had much pain at all. I don't pride myself too much but i am a trooper.. i was back to school two days after my emergency csection, so i guess I can deal with pain a little easier than most. I hope the doctor finds a solution to your pain and things get better for you, too!

amazon13: i was told before that the lump could be due to drinking too fast but I don't believe i am! i take tiny sips throughout the day, despite my unquenced thirst!! unfortunately, i am not on solid foods yet although I feel i am ready for them! full liquids doesn't seem to be satisfying enough!

valleygirlRN: thanks for your comment! i, too, am looking forward to the positive changes. I supposed I am drowing myself in self pity over things i cannot control such as the desire to pig out whenever i feel like it without gaining an ounce! I supposed it's time to let go of that and move along as you have. thank you for the inspiration!

sojourner: thank you so much for the support. i keep repeating to myself the reasons i chose to have this surgery in the first place and the difference it will make in the long run. Hopefully, maybe, possibly one day i will not need the band and will be able to control my eating habits without it but I suppose I should act more grateful of the gift of the band and use it to my benefit for now. I know I have failed previously just trying to do it on my own, so I should stop complaining! I guess it's easier said than done!

desiree123: i am the same! I've read so much about the negative things that RARELY happen and I freaked myself out completely! I will take your advice, thank you!

thank you to everyone who responded to my post! It feels great to hear from my support team but even more awesome when it's from someone who is/has dealt with the same issues! I hope my emotions get under control soon and I can move forward and be happy with myself and my decision! I am excited to reap the positive benefits of getting the band, while at the same time still kind of upset over my decision. anyway, thanks again everyone!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
