Webb Designer 5 Posted August 4, 2012 I hate asking but does anyone else have Constipation? I have been on the 1000 calorie diet for 2 weeks and last 4 days I have not gone to bathroom. I don't eat a lot bread products because of my Celiac. I have taken 2 rounds of laxative. I also tried Metamucil. But it says gluten free. But it is 20 ppm. Anyone have some advise. Thanks! mybella 35 Posted August 4, 2012 I assume a pre diet. I found the Protein Shakes made me constipated I am not sure you are drinking Protein shakes. I never had problems with Constipation when I was eating carbs. I love brocolli and I ate a lot of that and that helped with digestion and a salad everyday. I also ate spinish in my scambled eggs as well. Even when I stopped the salad I notice I was getting binded. I used protein shakes at least once a day on my pre diet. On my 10 liquid of protein I had the same problem. I had to eat brocolli and had to take laxatives.< /p>
Sojourner 2,446 Posted August 4, 2012 Constipation is an ongoing problem for many with the band...and the only things I have found to help are increasing the amount of Fiber I can eat (lettuce, Benefiber), increasing my Fluid intake, and taking a stool softener. I will be fine, have a fill, then be on only liquids for 2 days, and my system gets totally messed up again. This is not a problem to ignore, as there can be additional medical complications if you ignore the issue. You should have been given some instructions from your surgeon about how to manage this issue...if following them does not help, get in touch with their office for additional instructions. Webb Designer 5 Posted August 4, 2012 I have been post op for about year. Lost 47 gained 20 back. Time to adjust to all the things I was diagnosed with. ; ) I went saw my nutritionist and she gave me a 1000 calorie diet and she just replaced the bread in the morning with GF bread. She did say something about chia seed. They are kinda expensive. But I guess I need to break down and get them and eat more salads. I am still losing weight. 8 pounds in 2 weeks. Thanks ladies, Benefiber has gluten
2012 359 Posted August 4, 2012 On another post on here someone suggested Pearls Probiotics as I experienced Constipation the week after getting surgery and I did not want to run into major issues as I have always had stomach issues. They are tiny capsules to take and can survive getting through your stomach and into your intestines better than most probiotics supposedly. It took about a week to a week and a half and I have been regular. They are not too expensive and have been good for me. Before surgery I loved Sustenex, but I was afraid to take it after the surgery as the pill is larger than a "m&m", which is the guide I was given for taking pills.< /p>
Kekeboo 47 Posted August 6, 2012 My doctor said Miralax was a good choice, it's unflavored and you can take it every day. My daughter actually took it for 3 years when it was a prescription only. It's expensive, but sooo worth it. 1 papoose reacted to this
Summerrain 520 Posted August 6, 2012 Prunes when needed a lots of Water does the trick for me. I personally don't like taking over the counter medicine as I have done in the past and then my body tends to rely on it.
Bnug 4 Posted August 7, 2012 Add Flax Seed Oil to your shakes or salads. It has worked WONDERS for me. I tried EVERYTHING...and it has been the only thing to help
loseit 28 Posted August 7, 2012 What about Phillips Milk of Mag capsules? Has anyone tried those? Sometimes they help me and sometimes they don't. Anyone Else?
lawson 14 Posted August 7, 2012 You can buy tea that is all natural in the tea section of the grocery store that helps!!! All natural! Drink a cup of this warm tea before bed and the next morning you should go! The tea is called, Smooth Move. Look at HEB and I know Brookshires have it with the herbal tea. 2 Webb Designer and jaguarmomx3 reacted to this

fanearnhardt 3 0 Posted August 13, 2012 So what if none of it still works? I was banded nearly 2 years ago and about a year ago I started with severe Constipation. I am now on 3 perscription medications and a probiotic and still have problems. One of my medications amitiza makes me retain Water in my stomach and hands. Needless to say I should have plenty of water. Now to counteract all the water I need to take a dieretic. Nothing is working! Fiber makes be bloated and I have severe stomach pain in my stomach/band area. Miralax doesn't work. Only thing that works is the golyghtly stuff 8 - 16 oz a day but that stuff is nasty. If I don't take anything I am stuck on the couch because of severe stomach pain, lower back pain and lack of energy. Does anyone know if electrolyghts affect constipation. I have bouts with gas. I don't like broccoli or veggies other than carrots, corn and green Beans. I eat salad now and then but I'm hungry 3 hours later. Any ideas?
neener1970 39 Posted August 14, 2012 It's really common for us when banded but I did notice that the more Water I take in the better. I also started having a bowl of raisin bran everyday and Calcium magnesium supplement. Those two with my Cereal seem to have ended the problem for several months but I was banded almost a year ago a and I suffered for most of that year lol if you can tolerate cereal and can find a gluten free option it might help
