Hypnosis for Weight Loss??

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever tried hypnosis for weight loss? How about smoking, depression, stuff like that? I can't help but think that so much of my porblems with food are coming from my BRAIN and not my MOUTH that it would be great if we could just rewire things subconsciously. The Long Island Bariatric Center has a link for weigh-loss hypnosis and they say it's about $500 for 4 sessions. Here's the link: http://www.doryferraro.com/hypnotherapy.html

It's a lot of money but hey, I'd do it in a heartbeat if it would stop my self-sabatoge!

Any thoughts or experiences?

Suzanne

I went to hypnosis years ago... walked out and went to Burger King.

DH went to hypnosis for smoking... walked out and lit up a cigarette.

Umm you can say I don't have much faith in it LOL.

I tired weight loss hypnosis. I had even less success with that than I have withthe band. Or Atkins. or the grapefruit diet. Or the cabage Soup diet, or any of a number of failed things.

I went to a hypnotist for a year. I didn't really take off any weight but I did want to eat healthier foods. Now I listen to a subliminal self-hypnosis tape every night when I go to bed. I'm hoping that the band and the tape combo will be the answer to my obesity. I don't find the hypnosis alone to be strong enough to control my portions but the foods that I do eat are much healthier. When I am listening the to tape on a regular basis I crave veges instead of sugar. If you are interested the web address for the subliminal/self-hypnosis tapes is http://efflearn.com/default.php . The truth for me is that I had to exhaust every weight loss avenue before I could accept the fact that I needed to have surgery. This band (which I got on Monday) is my last hope.

I also tried hypnosis for weight loss. It was an amazing feeling, so unbelivibly relaxing. When I left and was so energized, and so conviced that I could loose the wieght. I wanted to put good things in my body, drink lots of Water and had none of the cravings I usually have. The feeling lasted maybe 24 hours. If I could afford to do it everyday...maybe it would work long term, but that's not very realistic.

IMO...

Hypnosis and the paranormal (parapsychology) have about the same amount of credibility in the world of psychology. Just as the medical profession has its people who wonder elixirs and miracle cure bracelets, psychology has its hypnotists. People who want to be hypnotized will be hypnotized, just as people who want to astral project themselves to Venus or communicate with the dead using a crystal ball are going to do so.

Dies it have any viability? Well - it seems to be able to relax people short-term. But so does 10 deep breaths.

If you want to try something less expensive there is an audiobook website for your iPod or Mp3 called www.audible.com

You can buy a book on weight loss hypnosis for about $20 and I use it. I don't guess it works but I listen before I go to sleep and it's relaxing. It helps me calm my mind so I can get to sleep faster. I wish it worked on the weight loss but I don't guess it does.

You guys are lucky! I spent $2000 on hypnosis. I lost about 22 pounds in about 10 weeks and I thought I had FOUND my cure. As soon as the "intensive" portion of the program was done, so was my weight loss.

Think about it, $2000 divided by 22 pounds - I'm some kind of prime cut at roughly $91 per pound.

After yet another failed diet I decided it was time for surgery. I'll keep you posted on my success rate. (So far, at $10,600 divided by my 15 pound weight loss I'm up to about $707 per pound.

Look for me on the menu - I must be damned good. :hungry:

Anything can work for one or two people. But if this worked on a widescale basis, the internet would be rife with success stories and people would be lining up around the block to have it done.

But they aren't, are they?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
