Hi! I just turned 20 in June and am scheduled to get my band on August 13th! I'm excited but really nervous. Initially I was only nervous about the pain of recovery, which I realize isn't extremely bad, but now I'm more nervous about regretting getting my band. I've seen a lot of success stories but have also seen some not so successful stories. I'm worried about long term complications (heartburn/acid reflux, erosion) and if it'll all be worth it. Ahh, I don't know, I think I'm just psyching myself out. Any advice or tips would be so appreciated!

-Erin

It's natural to be nervous, but if you are committed to this it is a wonderful tool to aid in a healthier, happier lifestyle. It won't be a walk in the park but will help you in your Quest. It's great that you are taking control of your health and weight at a young age. So many people I talk to say they wish they would have done it sooner as they have such a better quality of life now.

Also, remember that this is reversible if you truly had complications from it later in life. Make sure to reach out to others for support via this site or support groups as you can get a lot of encouragement and great ideas to stay on track. It is a huge change in your lifestyle but once you can get past the mental challenge it poses, the physical benefits are so worth while.

Best of luck to you!

For me, my band has been worth it. Worth every stuck episode and worth every type of food that I am no longer able to eat. I would do it all again! I believe I never would have been able to lose the weight with out this wonderful tool. I am so thankful for my husband supporting me through it and encouraging me!!

Best of luck to you. And good for you for taking back your life. I wish I would have done it while I was a bit younger!

It is so natural to be nervous. I just got my band in February and only had two weeks notice from the time the insurance approved my surgery to my actual surgery date. I was really worried about all of that same stuff. Now I am 6 months past my surgery and I can tell you I am so happy with my results. It has been a little slower than I expected but I am losing weight and that is what counts. It is so exciting to look at pictures of myself from before surgery and pictures of myself now. Even though I think that the scale should say something different the fact that my clothes fit better and I am finally able to buy smaller sizes means so much more for me right now. I promise you it will be ok. Just take one day at a time and focus on that. 6 months will fly by and you will be so happy with the results.

Ohh I'm glad things are going well for you! I agree; if I look good than the number on the scale doesn't matter as much :) Reading about your success definitely makes me feel a lot better about everything! Thank you for the advice and support!

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
