Got Stuck Tonight-Again

Recommended Posts

I only have 4.5cc's in and tonight got stuck on deli thin sliced ham. Horrible. lasted 2 hrs. I dread my appt in 3 wks for another fill if I can't eat eggs or this ham that is paper thin.

Not sure why you say only 4.5cc, that is quite a lot. You need to remember to take tiny bites, cold meats such as ham are too easy to take big bites of and then as you have found out they cause problems. Maybe you need to cancel your next appointment. It is possible that you have enough fill for now. Concentrate on working with what you have and learning to eat in a way that doesn't cause you to get stuck.

Hi Donna, just 24 days for me to go! Sorry to hear about the stuck episode. Are ya doing good on wt. loss?

Sounds to me like you may need to have a little removed. With the band just because it will hold so many CC does not mean it only works if that many are in there it is where you feel resctriction and can go 4-6 hours without hunger pain. I have a 7 cc band and I have 2 CC in and if I have more put in I will get stuck also sometimes I have to have it taken down to 1 CC or I have problems it is not how many CC are in the band it is how and what you eat.You should go to your appt and talk with your dr about the stuck problem because I am sure he will not put more my guess is he will ask you if you want to wait or take some out. I have been banded for 4 years and I see my dr every 2-3 months still just to keep on track and to adjust to what feels comfortable to me.

Hi Donna, you were banded a few months after me and I only two weeks ago finally got up to 4.5cc... It's really possible that your body is swollen inside, and that the opening in YOUR 4.5cc band is much tighter than someone else's 4.5cc... Based on this post, and another one you made a few days ago, it really sounds like you're too tight... DEFINITELY don't get another fill, if anything I'd get .25cc taken out...

For many bandsters getting stuck occasionally is the norm. It is for me and I can usually attribute the episode to eating foods that my band does not like or eating too fast, too big a bite or chewing inadequately. It doesn't happen often anymore as I've learned the hard way that I need to pay close attention to what I'm doing and follow the rules.

You will also find that your band is tempermental. Mine is and has a mind of it's own at times. Foods that pass through easily one day may get stuck the next. If you get stuck every day you may need an unfill or you may need to follow the rules a little better? If you are getting stuck once or twice a week I don't see a problem?

BTW-Ham is one of the foods that give my band problems so I'm not surprised you had a stuck episode. Even if it's thin sliced, a small chunk can cover your portal and block incoming foods. Take smaller bites and chew more or, don't eat ham.

Hi Donna, I am so sorry you are going through this. I dont know about another fill if you cant get a thin slice of deli meat down. If it keeps happening maybe you should get a little unfil.

I have no clue yet when my surgeon starts fills yet, however I think I am going to wait a month or so where I am on solid foods before this happens. I am only 10 days post op and still very swollen, and told my stomache will be swollen for another week!

I wish you the best, keep us updated.

I was told in a class that thin sliced meat is harder to get down than getting a thicker piece and cutting it in small cubes and chew it a sliver of the thin can easily get stuck anyway it made sence to me

well last night proved you right girl. My mom and I cooked a roast with gravy the other day and it was really tender and I ate that just fine, it like shredded off kind of like pulled pork does and I was able to eat it and it was really good for a change. Wasn't able to eat much of it guess that's a good thing, means my band is working.

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
