...possible port flip?

I had a little stomach bug on Wednesday night (8/1) around 7. This is the first time I've really thrown up hard since my banding a year and a half ago. Afterward I felt fine, no chest pain or band discomfort. I felt normal.

I work in the nursing field and the next day after lunch around 1 in the afternoon I felt a little uncomfortable in my left side. It started out about 3-4 inches above my port. By the time I got home I was doubled over in pain unable to breath deep, cough or talk and it was worse laying down. I slept with ice packs and in the morning it wasn't as bad but it was still difficult to breath due to tender muscles in my abdomen. The pain was spreading though all along my left side. This evening I feel a little better but it's still extremely painful to breathe and it's excruciating to cough or laugh. It brings me to tears.

I called the office this morning and the nurse said it could be a pulled muscle but I'm just not feeling any better.

Does this situation sound familiar to anyone... or anyone who had a flipped port... was it this painful??

I was nauseated two weeks ago for the first time since being banded in April. The next day my left side hurt so bad I couldn't stand it. I ended up having surgery to remove kidney stones two days later. It was horrific! I immediately thought it was something to do with my band but it wasn't.

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
