Hey Everyone!

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, my name is Christi and I have been considering the lap band surgery to help me lose weight. I have my first appt on Thursday... I believe this is the consultation where I attend a class, talk to nutritionist, get blood work, and speak with Dr. The hospital that I am going to is a little over 2 hours away... I am anxious but I also feel a little overwhelmed. My mother and grandmother had the gastric bypass surgery and I don't want to experience the bad side effects that they did... I have always been over weight... My whole life... Until about 5 years ago... I started working too much, not eating enough, and was stressed all the time... I lost over 100 pounds... Not the healthy way but I was just happy to be normal... Then dec of 2009... I got pregnant... Within 2 months I went from 155 to 188 and when I got to my due date I was 278... I lost a ill right after... But I have been stuck between 235 and 245 for 2 years... I am nervous about the surgery but I am beginning to have health problems and I am scared that if I do not have it then it may be too late... I am 27 almost 28 and I have a beautiful baby girl that will be 2 in sept. I am planning to get married in may of next year and would love to be below 200 pounds when I do... Any words of encouragment will be greatly appreciated... I don't have many friends and I battle with myself all the time that this is the right choice for me!

Hey :-) thanks for responding! I am sure you will do fine... And I am telling you with the experience of living in a household with not 1 but 2 gastric banders... I am telling you... Stick with the lap band... That is my personal opinion... At least this surgery is adjustable... :-)

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
