Your Thoughts On Soup, Yogurt And Protein Shakes, Please

Recommended Posts

I like Soup and Greek yogurt a lot (and some Protein shakes) but not sure if they could be slider foods, or considered drinking with your meal. I know many of you eat them regularly - do they keep you full? Or do you eat them because at times you are too tight for more solid meals?

I will check with NUT, just wanted your thoughts and experiences.

Thanks!!

I like Greek yogurt for Breakfast or for an afternoon snack. It has lots of Protein and is fillings. Nothing to do with tightness.

With the band, and limited size portions, it's important that every food choice deliver big on nutrition.

Greek yogurt and whey Protein shakes deliver well on nutrition. These two choices could become "slider" foods if you allowed them to be. Most important is to not develop the habit of using them as sliders. Portion Control is imperative for weight loss success.

I use Protein shakes occasionally now if I have not met my daily Protein goal, and for 2 days following a fill, never as a snack.

As for Soup, my surgeon said no to any and all soups; they fall way short on the level of nutrition that bariatric patients need. The amount of nutrition per serving size by volume is just not high enough.

Yogurt is my almost daily breafast, about half a cups worth it some berries or banana. A tablespoon of LSA and some walnuts, and its a very nutritious meal - and definitely gets me through.

Adding crap empty calories like Syrup or splenda though, not so much. I would be hungry quickly if i ate that.

Thick homemade Soup is another staple i make them full of chickn, vegies, brow rice. Theres no way that is an inadequate meal. Again, quality counts. Canned soup is rubbish, again just empty calories.

My homemade Soup is not a slider. I make it chunky with meat amd veg. When i go to my fav mexican rest i get chicken soup easy on the avacado and cheese. It is basically all

Chicken and i dont eat the broth. Canned Soups are sliders imo.

Unless the Soup has a lot of chunks and pieces, most would consider it a slider because it goes right through the band like a liquid. Technically speaking, yogurt and Protein shakes would be sliders too.

With that said, some are very good for you in moderation. Some surgeons won't allow them though so be sure to check with yours to be sure. As for myself, I have a Protein shake for breakfast every morning and I enjoy a nice cup of soup for lunch sometimes, too.

With all of them the key is Portion Control and moderation regardless of how much we can physically consume.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
