berniev7108 0 Posted August 3, 2012 Hi everyone Im new to lap band community. Recently, I have taken the choice to get the lap band. Right now I'm getting paper work in place to see if my insurance will approve it. Wish me luck. Now that I been wanting to get the lap band and looking at blogs. I am starting to second guess myself after reading everyone post about the risk of slipping and Erosion of band into stomach and bands leaking. Is that normal to think like that?I know its a small percent that it happens to people with the band. I just thinking long term risk. I know if I dont get the lap band, I am putting my health at risk by being at the weight that I am at. I am tyring to think positive about getting it done but I still have the what if it happens to be after the get the lap band. I also talk to my doctor and it seem like he wasnt liking the lap band even though he assure me that he will do it but he lean towards the gastric bypass. It just gave me mixed feeling. If any one can give me any advice. I just want to make the right choice.
JustDoIt130 369 Posted August 3, 2012 The right choice is the one that you think is best. Everything has risks. For me, I really didn't want my insides re-routed or taken out, ala bypass and gastric sleeve. The band is not easy, it takes WORK- you have to commit, follow the rules (eating small bites slowly, not drinking with meals or after, eating solid Protein, not "eating around the band" with unhealthy junk). You have to exercise (most people do). You have to watch what you put in your mouth. Good luck in your decision. I am so happy I did it, I've lost over 70 lbs in 6 months. mybella 35 Posted August 3, 2012 I decided on the band because it not invasive and it is reversable. Plus I figure if I don't do it, have family history for every disease. So if I don't I will be on strick diets evenually for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and cancer. so I am getting in front of these diseases. I also am not working and I know weight does not help, and I have isolated myself from everyone because I am ashamed of myself. So my quality of life is null and void. Luckly I have a loving supportive husband. The reason why I chose the band is that I wanted the restriction of the white carbs because those are my enemies, not the sweets. The gastric and sleeve you eat less, and you can eat anything almost, but you also throw up alot if you eat too much sugar and fat and you can develope malabsortion issue with is bad and then you have to live with the changes to you organ for the rest of your life. But I will say if my band did not work, I would do the sleeve as a last resort because if I cant be thinner, I don't want to be here living this lifestyle, so I am making the effort to make the change. Good luck on your decision. Remember my "mybella" Bella is what I am naming my pouch. my little belly.

DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! 12,703 Posted August 4, 2012 Ultimately the choice has to be yours and yours alone. You know what's best for you, so stick to your guns and do what you know is right regardless of what anyone else thinks. This is one of those few times in your life where it's all about you, your needs, and your health. The best advice I can give you is to do your homework thoroughly. There are risks with the band but there are with the other WLS too. I can tell you that while you might read a lot of negativity about the band and supposed band failure, you need to keep in mind the majority of those complications are a direct result of the person making bad decisions and causing the problems themselves. This is why educating yourself to the facts before surgery is so crucial not only to your weight loss success but to your overall health. Best wishes to you on whatever you decide! 1 mombahw reacted to this
