What To Eat Before The Gym??

Recommended Posts

I an trying to manipulate my food intake to get the most out of it.

After reading, I guess protien is better after working out, to burn the most?

But, what do you eat before then? I am drinking a couple of huge waters first thing in the morning. Heading to the gym, then protien shake after. Do I go on an empty stomach or eat something?

I drink a little bit of Water and sip throughout my workout. I find if I eat a good dinner I am ok in the morning. I drink my Protein shake right after my workout. I don't want a sloshy Water filled belly when I am working out.

Otherwise occasionally I will eat a small apple for the carbs before a workout.

Carbs are good about a hour before working out. Gives you the energy you need to really put your all into it.

But then again I have read doing cardio on and empty stomach is good that way you are going right into fat burning. If you are doing weights, its good to have carbs before.

I eat a carb, one that digest quickly for energy such as a banana, oatmeal(not packaged)with berries, Cereal w/skim, greek yogurt with low cal granola. From what I've learned, for fat burning, 1tbsp of all natural Peanut Butter on 100% whole wheat toast is good with bananas on top. There's many things. It's all based on you and your taste.

Research the subject. That's what I've done. Read read and read. There's always something new and exciting when it comes to healthy eating.

Good luck :)

I love to workout as soon as I wake up in the morning. However, I can never eat as soon as I wake up or drink anything because of things getting stuck. So I'm usually heading to the gym on an empty stomach. Any advice?!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
