My Fitness Pal

Recommended Posts

So I started using my fitness pal that I have heard so much about. I keep hitting these stalls with my weight. So for the last few days I have pluged in everything. It is telling me I am not getting enough calories a day- WHAT? My nutritionist told me to keep it between 800-1000 calories, which I had been sticking to, well my fitness pal say that is to low. What do I believe?

Last week I was stuck due to my TOM, then last weekend I dropped 2 lbs in 2 days, but since then I have stalled. I have stayed stuck in the 222 point somethings each day. I know I am not getting the 60 oz of Water because I feel bloated with that much water. I normally get 40-50 oz of water a day. I am just 6 weeks out and have lost a total of 22 lbs and feel good. I am working out 3-4 times a week (elliptical) for 30 min and doing weights twice a week.

What am I doing wrong?

I would go with what your nutritionist says. My Fitness Pal doesn't ask if you have a lap band :) Use it to just help track your calories, thats what I am doing. I'm still on the liquid diet pre-surgery (August 6th!! :D ), and it is constantly telling me that I need more cals. I just tell it to shut up and track what I want it to track.

I think everyone hits stalls or plateaus. Once your body is large for a long time, it wants to stay that way, so it will kind of fight you at certain points along the way. Don't get discouraged!! You'll get past this stall, just keep doing your cardio (<3 the eliptical) and keeping track of the calories.

Congrats on the 22lb loss! Thats awesome!! :D

I love my fitnespal. I adjust all of the goals to meet my doctors recommendations. Change your calorie intake in your profile. I haven't figured out how to adjust the protien, so I just ignore that part and make sure I am reaching my set goal.

I love that you can scan barcodes and add food, it's such a great tool.

I love mfp too! I always come in lower than expected calories. I just keep doing what I am doing. I have a few friends on there now and I have been realizing that they too are coming in too low most days. Sounds like you are doing ok!

Keep up the good work!

I don't use MFP but I do get plateaus. Don't fret over the weekly ups and downs. You can gain 10 lbs of Water weight in just a weekend if you eat the wrong foods. I know, I gained 7 lbs two weekends ago and it was just because I ate along with my visiting grandkids. As soon as they left I went back to my lapband journey and dropped 9 lbs in 4 days. I know most of that was Water weight but I'm positive I lost maybe 2 lbs of fat.

This will be a long journey and the weight you lost in the beginning was mostly water weight. Now you're working on fat loss. It will be slower now but oh so satisfying. Keep up the great work.

great job on your weight loss !! keep it up !! like any journey you are going to go forward, backwards and sometimes stay in the same place for awhile .(plateaus) dont give up ! just keep following your drs orders, and your body will start responding. it takes time to lose weight, just like it took time to gain weight. Good luck !!!

You can change your calorie goal.it is set at a recommended goal for normal " no band" people.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
