Pre-Op Stomach Bacteria Testing

Recommended Posts

Okay, so this is kind of premature for me to be concerned with but after talking with my surgeons office yesterday I am curious how many of you had this experience so I'll know what my chances are haha. They do the bacteria test to make sure you don't have too much of certain bacteria in your stomach. If there is too much present they put you on antibiotics and you can't be retested for 4 weeks. Which means surgery could be postponed for another month. Have any of you actually tested and had too much bacteria or is this something that rarely happens?? Thanks for any answers, helping to ease the over-thinker, worriers mind :)

I wouldn't be too concerned unless you have had stomach issues. I think the bacteria is related to causing ulcers so I think you would have discomfort or stomach issues already. Good luck!

Hey Crystal. One of my bandbuddies who had surgery the same day as me had tested positive for the stomach bacteria, I think it's called pylori (sp?). Our surgeon had recommended that we have all of our testing done ASAP so if anything like this came up we could be treated. Our doctor put her on antibiotics for 2 weeks and she was still able to have the surgery on schedule.
