Eight month bandiversary

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Today is my eight month bandiversary. My life has changed dramatically and I am so happy to be banded. I have lost 93 lbs and I am 7 away from the century mark. These are the things I look forward to:

Riding a horse. ( Isaid I would do it when I got to 225 lbs)

Only 16 more pounds to go to this goal.

Going to Six Flags and getting on EVERY rollercoaster.

(Thats my goal when I reach 199)

Only 42 pounds to go!

Start flying on planes again

(Did that at Christmas at 259 lbs! Didn't need an extender either!)

Will be really happy to fly anytime when I am down to 199!

Only 42 pounds to go!

Sit in the middle seats at the movie theatre!

(I do that now and have plenty of room even in the small seats!)

I used to sit on the last seat in the row so I would have more room.

I used to wear a tight 28 pants. I now wear a size 20 pants.

I used to wear a tight 26 top. I now wear a size 18.

OK, I am not skinny, but I am no longer the biggest person when I go somewhere like a restaurant, or get on a plane or go to the movies.

My life is very different now and I am excited to see how much better it will be in 4 or 5 months. Who would have thought that eight months later I would be no longer morbidly obese?

Yeah!

Today is also my 8 month bandiversary and I am with you 100 percent. I went on vacation last week and didn't need a seatbelt extender.

I saw myself on tv at a celebrity basketball game and I had to rewind the tape to make sure it was me. It felt good to not feel like the biggest person there. I actually looked like everybody else.

I can't wait to go to six flags and get on a rollercoaster. It's amazing how good I feel right now. I haven't weighed myself in 2 months but at last check in I was 101 pounds lost and I know that I have lost some more since then. I only weigh myself every three months so next month we'll see where I'm at but honestly what the scale says is secondary to the way I'm feeling and living.

Thanks. I'm actually back on liquids for the next 4 days. I don't like getting fills so every couple of months If I feel like I'm getting too comfortable with eating I'll go back to liquids to keep myself in check. I like knowing that I have some control over my progress. It's a tough process but I'm very happy with the results.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
