Going To Be Interesting

Recommended Posts

My BF is coming home tomorrow after being in the hospital for about 2 1/2 months. In new York. We live in Texas. Other than the major readjustment of life in general, he has had major health issues and lost 50-70 lbs of weight/muscle he didn't have to spare. Now he has been put on meds to help him regain an appetite & they want him to eat & eat & eat and gain some weight before even thinking about starting to exercise again. So, I buy skim milk for me, he needs whole milk. I get no fat salad dressing/vinagrette, he goes for blue cheese with a side of bacon lol. Can you say complete opposite of what I need to do? Grocery shopping is going to be a b***h. Excited he will be home but nervous too. I've done ok while he was gone & lost 24 lbs in that time. I didn't have many outside influences & didnt have all this crap food in my house that I know will be here now & eating wasn't the focus of my day. Now its like my life is going to revolve around food between making sure he's getting all his needs met & me spending the time & effort I do into making better choices for myself. Am I bitching? Yeah, probably... I'm just going to have to suck it up...

You know maybe this wont be as bad as u think it would be. I dont think any hospital would advocate someone clogging their arteries with saturated fat in order to gain weight. Personally i think u should keep on the low fat side of things like milk and Salad Dressing but make sure he has those replacement meal shakes for additional calories, plenty of healthy Pasta and maybe large amounts of Protein like big steaks. Putting on weight in an unhealthy way to me is just as bad as not putting weight on at all. its about increasing good calories and not increasing the bad, i am sure u can find a working solution. Good luck and i wish him a speedy recovery and you your sanity :) !

I agree with Cazzy. He doesn't have to have all of the really-bad-but-oh-so-good foods to gain the weight - - lean, healthy food with high Protein may be just as effective.

I have been doing "seperate" grocery shopping for months and it doesn't even bother me. I have it set in my mind that certain things are my husbands and others are mine. My husband is pretty fit, and has actually lost 7 lbs since I've been banded sharing my healthy meals. He has a really intense job though, and doesn't get a lunch break, so he has to "graze" all day. I just buy Snacks that are on the healthier side but still ones I wouldn't eat (the "healthy" crackers, regular yogurt, etc).

I hope your husband has a quick recovery and you're able to continue your success.

You're both right, Im going to focus on the good stuff I can have & also try to encourage rather than nag him towards the healthy things he can enjoy that will help him get stronger without clogging up the arteries or gastric tract. He loves fresh fruit & veggies so we are good there. we are in Texas afterall, so good steak is plentiful. He & I are both allergic to fish so so we do gravitate to the chicken & steak & pork. I think I got ahead of myself & was just picturing the gorge at first & not the realistic methodical approach. Thank you for the clarity & kind words ladies!

Definitely, I agree with your last post and others above. I believe there are (similar to Protein drinks), drinks at GNC or similar places (Amazon) that are meant to add weight in a healthy way and one that won't be as tempting to you. You don't want him putting weight in an unhealthy, high cholesterol, etc. way.

Guessing, he should be getting exercise too to help rebuild his strength so maybe encourage each other to walk and exercise together. It will be good physically and emotionally.

Good luck!

You can eat the same actually because he need to gain healthy weight. So find a shake fort him to go with his Breakfast while you enjoy yours and just double everything you eat for him. So although your serving may be a half a co his wool me a cup and a half. A boost night be good for him to

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
