Too Tight Or Inflamed?

Recommended Posts

I have had 3 fills. I had 3cc put in the first time. I did great until 3 weeks later something started getting stuck and then it just caused me pain where I was throwing up. I had an unfill to 2cc I did fine. 3 weeks later I had .5cc put in. I did fine once in a while I would vomit a little if I got stuck. Then I had 1cc put in on wednesday last week so I'm currently at 3.5cc and was doing great! Finally felt full when eating and started losing a little. (I haven't really lost any weight since having a fill, been at a plateau) I felt like 3.5cc was going to be that sweet spot, but on Monday something started hurting caused me to throw up and yesterday same problem all day. I just took a bite today and can feel the same pain. Do you think I'm irritated and need liquids for a day? Or should I have an unfill immediately? Does anyone else have any similar situations? Or get tighter on your own for no reason? I'm frustrated :/

What is your doctor or nurse practioner saying about this problem. This doesnt sound like something you should have to figure out on your own. I would give them a call and tell them what you are experiencing.

My doctor told me if I can drink, I'm not too tight. I think I am just a tocuh too tight, because when I eat, if I have more than about 4 bites, I'm miseralbe then start throwing up slime. I had my last fill on June 25th, and today is the first day that I have even felt hungry at all.

I went on vacation, flew to so. cal, then drove to Vegas. The altitude changes really messed with me. I was so tight in the mornings, I almost couldnt even drink, but I was stuck because I didnt have a dr anywhere around to do a slight unfill. I've been home since Sunday and just now starting to feel more normal.

I would say, listen to your body. Take a few days to go back on liquids to let your stomach calm down, then try soft foods for a couple days. If you are still having issues, then get back in to your dr. (BTW, I have 8cc in a 14 cc band)

Thank you! My dr. Always says an unfill. Id rather try liquids and see if it calms down then have an unfill if I dont need it. I have been stuck at the same weight so I'm ready to find the sweet spot but I def don't want pain and vomiting.

It's better to have unfill than to be too tight. Vomiting is never normal with the band and it is a big cause of slips. If you're taking tiny bites, chewing until it's mush, and still vomiting then you are too tight.

If you're not having any problem keeping liquids down, then try liquids for a FULL day and then mushies for a full day.

I irritated by band last week while on vacation and knew I needed to do a full day of liquids and then graduate to mushies, but I didn't. I'd start out with the best intention of doing liquids all day, but then I'd eat something... eventually my band got so irritated that I couldn't even keep liquids down and had to have a 3 cc unfill and now I'm really miserable. The unfill relieved the pain, but now I'm starving all the time and not getting full or satisfied on my normally small amounts. I'm scared to death of how much weight I'm going to gain before I can start to get fills again.

Also remember that there is a difference between regurgitating and vomiting. Regurgitation, while it's definitely not healthy, it's not as dangerous as forcefully vomiting. Once I forcefully vomited is when my serious problems started which required the unfill.

I had similar probelms with my band getting tighter for no reason 6 weeks after a fill and was told by my doctor to go on liquids for a week and see if the inflamation clamed down, I also had reflux so had to take something for that. I didn't get much better once I started on a mushed food again and I was struggling with liquids. I then had a barium xray which showed that virtually nothing was getting through my band. I had 1cc taken out the same day followed by 0.5cc 3 days later, because it still felt tight and uncomfortable for me. I now have 6.5 cc in my 10cc band and can eat solids again and still have restriction, basically back to normal but with less in the band.

Too tight is really no good and can cause other problems if it goes on too long such as vomiting, relux and slips and feeling unfortable and in pain is no fun at all.

I would get advice from your dr asap and get it sorted sooner rather than later.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.
