Hypothyroid Issues

Recommended Posts

HiI Everyone! So I went to my nutritionist today to ck in and it'll be 3 months since my surgery nxt wk. Ive had a 1cc fill about a month ago and I've lost 10lbs (I was careful to NOT say ONLY 10 lbs bc it's a loss nonetheless!) anywho in reviewing some bloodwork I did about a month ago she said my thyroid is out of control...(hypo).. I'm going back to see the MD nxt wk to see if medication wb required but I've been diagnosed before (2010) as "intermittent hypothyroid" most annoying diagnosis ever.. However THC levels have only gotten worse post surgery.. I read that having surgery, stress and other factors can trigger the hormonal imbalance..

Has anyone else experienced this?

Where you put on meds?

Had surgery to remove thyroid/did it help?

Change of diet?

Any info would be helpful.

Well, my 12 year old son was born with hypothyroidism, he is now on 175Mg of synthroid. He has a weight issue because of this. As long as he takes is meds. He's fine. Drs. Thought he would end up as a little person or mentally retarted since he was born with this issue, but no! He's smarter that most of the children his age. Some people don't realize how important the thyroid is. I wish you good luck!

OKay, first post for me, banded 10/15/10 have had hypothyroid since i was a slim & fit 40 yr old, am 66 1/2 now. Endo doc always had me at mid-higher levels of Synthroid, but at 50 my weight just kept adding on, 10 lbs a year at least. Good results from LB intil about 14 mos ago, i plateaued-out--but have kept same weight while exercising & not exercising. Last 6 mos, my thyroid has been fluctuating an unusual amount. I take .150 mcg Synthroid, which is 2 below the top amount, of about 10 dosages.

I test again in 6 weeks. My band was put back to 10 cc after a painful 6 month journey discoverying my reflux had returned with a case of gastritis, just diagnosed by the gastro doc. Oh yes! NO Contrast die for people like me because I am alergice to the IODINE used in the contrast! A good thing to know at my age, but i am not complaining as I have really enjoyed health so far with all my parts intact! But, the pouch was dilated & sagged over the band, i think, because gastro doc sucked food particles during the endoscopy.

So now, i am talking to my pouch to heal and not be saggy so Dr Stahl at Kirkland Clinic in Birmingham Alabama can put some restriction back. I just had to give a promo to the doc & the clinic is pretty well organized & fantastic & everything I have had done there. I live 45 milies south of Birmingham, the great medical mecca of the area. And, I had stopped my wellness visits at least 6 months ago, so this is my fault for not being more in touch--i knew something was really really wrong when i could no longer drink 10 oz of Water at a time, it just took 3 weeks for me to get diagnosed & treated.

Anybody even considering of voting for Obama, just realize that people like me will have to wait many more weeks of pain & discomfort to get treatment for stuff like this w/Medicare because the number of docs will radically thin out!

will post again after i see the endo doc & the bariatric doc Stahl. I just pray my pouch can recover its elasticity--but I'm an older bird, so maybe not.

Oh, also, with plateau, the skin & muffin top in jeans seems to be reducing slowly...somewhat.

But, i am still a happy grandma & very thankful for what the band has helped me do...so far!

Since weight loss my Dr lowered my prescription... so now down to 1mg or whatever. I think its slows down weight loss in general, but 41 lbs in 8 mo may not be the fastest, but I am good n gall bladder is behavin!

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
