I'm having my LB surgery on Aug. 13...and I'm super excited about it, but I have a fear of losing my hair. I hear that's one of the side effects... Is there anything I can do 2 prevent it from happening??? Is there anyone who has had the surgery that didn't experience Hair loss? Your comments is very appreciated!!!!!

Ive been banded 8 months, and i have thin, straight , baby fine shoulder length hair. Its actually gotten healthier a bit because of all the Protein i eat. Since im supposed to eat protein first , and fruits and veggies 2nd, there isnt much room for alot of carbs or sweets. So far the healthier diet has done wonders for me ,and i still have healthy hair !Good luck !

Between restricted eating and a thyroid problem, I've experienced significant hairloss over the last couple of years. As a person with hip length hair, I find this particularly distressing. My hairdresser assures me my hair will grow back and since I am not exactly bald, I've learned to live with it. In the meantime, though I am not delighted with the situation by any means.

I suspect my Hair loss is largely due to not getting enough Protein in my diet over the last 2.5 years and urge you to watch your Protein intake carefully. Even with the hair loss, I have absolutely NO REGRETS about my decision to get the band surgery. I wish you the very best of luck and a happy outcome.

I was banded 2 years ago and in the recent 4 months i've lost a significant amount of hair. After having blood tests, etc, the opinion of my doctor is that I'm not getting enough Protein, I am anemic, and have low B-12 levels....all of which can contribute to Hair loss. So, i am revving up my nutrition with good foods and Vitamin supplements, as well as, using some good Shampoo and hair treatments. All of this seems to make a difference...hope my hair continues to make a come back.

The only thing you can do is make sure to get enough Protein in and possibly take a Biotin supplement. Sometimes the Hair loss can result from general anesthesia, which is not something you can prevent. I had some hair loss that I noticed while brushing but it seems to have gone away.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
