Surgery Scheduled For The End Of August!

Recommended Posts

Hello,

My name is Tricia and I am scheduled to have my lapband surgery with Dr. Orris in Tempe, AZ on August 30, 2012. I am so happy that I have made this decision but I am also feeling really impatient and I want it NOW. I return to work tomorrow (I am a teacher) and I really wish I wasn't going back as I look now.

I will turn 32 in a week and I have 2 kids, 6 and 10 months old. My story is that I have always struggled with weight. In the past 8 years I have been between a size 12-20. I haven't "recovered" from either pregnancy, meaning I have never lost all the weight I gained. It is NOT as easy as I thought it would be to lose the baby weight and I have the body type that even to maintain the 256 I am now requires a low calorie diet and lots of exercise. I CANNOT be any bigger than I am now, I just can't.

I am used to dieting and I am excited because the lapband will be the tool I need to actually have the diets work. Any advice for these weeks before my surgery is greatly appreciated. Also, if any more information is needed I am happy to give it.

Congrats on your August 30 date. Mine is the same day in Sioux Falls SD and like you I'm growing terribly impatient. The lap band will be the tool in helping me get healthy and live a longer, happier life!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
