canderson04 17 Posted July 31, 2012 I was banded on July 11 and have been doing well until today. I have been hungry way too often. I don't get my first fill until August 9. Any suggestions? Could I possibly get a fill sooner? Is this bandster hell that everyone speaks of? I am really struggling with restriction and losing weight all of a sudden. marfar7 1,533 Posted July 31, 2012 Yes, you're in "Bandster Hell". It's the time after surgery but before you find your "sweet spot" of restriction. It'll happen. You have to be PATIENT. I know how hard that is. You had wls, you want the pounds off now. Unfortunately, it doesn't work this way. I hate to tell you, but you probably won't have restriction after this 1st fill either. Maybe, but probably not. It took 3 fills and 5 mths for me to get restriction. I lost maybe 4 pounds during that 5 months. If you follow the rules, measure out your portions, exercise, act like you actually have restriciton, you'll have more success. Or you can just do what I did - wait till I actually have restriction before losing. Good luck with the patience! downhomechik 41 Posted July 31, 2012 Marci-great job on your weight loss! Canderson04 - I was banded on 7/4 and don't get a fill until 8/20. I now understand Bandster Hell. I have recently started to get hungry. I didn't for quite some time after surgery. I'm keeping my plates saucer size and measuring portions. I am walking. I feel like I'm on another diet and feeling a tad deprived and sorry for myself. HOWEVER...I've lost almost 40 lbs starting with pre-surgery required weight loss+ post surgery so I have alot to be thankful for and alot lost! I will endure this and will be as successful as possible. WE CAN DO THIS!!! WE'VE come this far! Let me know how your first fill goes! 1 marfar7 reacted to this

smalltown 15 Posted July 31, 2012 Try not to get to down it doesn't help u get to your sweat spot any faster I'm 6months out and still not there have only lost 20lbs so far wish someone would have warned me I wouldn't probably loss much for the first SEVERAL months at least I could have been prepared mentally but I'm still hanging in there doing what I can no turning back now good luck to u and welcome to my boat for now guess we will just have to settle for a paddle boat till we reach our motor boat
Sojourner 2,446 Posted July 31, 2012 Yes, this is a difficult time...but not a reason to disregard the rules for your diet. You have to learn some effective coping skills to get you through. I've found that drinking Water and other "free fluids" (FF/SF) helps to manage my hunger. The Water usually will trip the hunger sensors, and helps to avoid eating until the next meal time. Also helpful for me is distracting yourself with getting involved with a project or going out to exercise. Best wishes...you are not alone! 1 ☠carolinagirl☠ reacted to this

Then I sat down with the Dr's nutritionist. She helped me so much. Have you done this yet? For most of us 20 lbs would be hard to take but you seem to be somewhat comfortable with 20? Or, are there other reasons why your weight loss is slow? I don't mean to pry but we all want to help everyone here. tmf

Julie3856 98 Posted August 1, 2012 I was banded July 25 & just recently started feeling hungry all the time. I followed the tips of other posters who have gone through the same & I increased my Protein & also made sure I was taking in my fluids adequately. sugar free popsicles are my saving grace! This has helped me immensely!!
