What Does Getting Stuck Feel Like?

Recommended Posts

So, I'm not really sure what just happened, and I'm sure it's been asked a million times before. But what does getting stuck feel like?

I just got home after a late night and was starving, I'm still on mushies and just quickly horfed down some left over salmon. I started to feel like I was choking, but I could breath so I took a drink of Water and immedietly everything came back up and I had to run to the bathroom where I made myself throw up more. Now the choking feeling is gone and I feel ok. This is the first time I've thrown up since I was banded on July 11th (I was priding myself on not throwing up!! Haha).

So is that getting stuck or is that what I've heard called "sliming" or something entirely different?

All I know is that it was a horrible feeling and it really scared me. I just mowed down with out even thinking like I used to pre-band. Lesson learned. I need to be really mindful about how quickly I'm eating and um, chewing haha.

That was terrible. Please reassure me!

Yes, that was getting stuck. If you have a problem that won't clear up, try pineapple juice, or a little warm coke. Pineapple juice will bring it up, coke will work like roto-rooter and woosh it down. Best wishes. Karen

Sounds like stuck to me. Worst thing you can do is to try to flush it out with a lot of Water or any Fluid. Usually stuck episodes last about 10-30 minutes till your pouch can massage the food through your band. You will feel the chest pressure along with the slime that your body produces to aid the food through your esophogus.

Like kll724 said, some use pineapple juice or coke but that does not work for me. I just have to wait it out or visit the bathroom and PB(product burp) the slime and some food out.

Try hard not to vomit. The convulsions can damage the sutures that attach the band to your stomach and cause slippage.

Yes that is what it is to get stuck. Eating to fast as you said will do that. I myself never drink if I feel stuck it will come back up on its own but everyone has different methods. My dr has strict rules on drinking before of after meals stuck or not and also my dr says no carbonated beverages ever but each dr is different so check with yours to see what he reccomends if that ever happens again.

I think I just had my first stuck episode and Oh Em Gee. Worst pain of my life. It felt like there was a giant boulder on my chest, my back hurt, my arms were tingling and sore. I thought I was having a heart attack or something. Felt like I needed to burp or puke, but nothing came up. I ended up lying on the bathroom floor in a cold sweat in a fetal position. I actually have a pretty high pain tolerance, and I was amazed at how intensely crappy this felt. I could feel the exact moment the food passed through because it was like instant relief. I am going to be chewing my food until it's liquid because I am NEVER going through this again!!!

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
