Fills and Booze?????

Recommended Posts

Hi all! So I have my first fill tomorrow and as many of you know, it's St. Paddy's Day!!! Of course I won't be drinking any green beer or anything -- I tried a sip of beer about a month after my surgery and it was SOOO painful. BUT I was wondering about wine or a white russian or something like that? Don't want to sound like an alcoholic or anything but I have a two big parties -- one on Friday night and one on Saturday afternoon (lots and lots of Irish friends) and I hate to think that I can't even have one drink.

I know you're supposed to be on liquids for a few days following the fills --- do you guys think a glass of wine will really put me in pain or even a white russian with just a little booze in it?? HELP!??! :help: :help:

HeatherGurl! You can drink beer? ! *Angel Choir sings* There is a light shining through the tunnel. Oh wait, what if the light in the tunnel is an oncoming train?

Does this mean you can burp? Someday I hope to burp again. The real kind, not the PB kind! LOL

It's a liquid, isn't it? Other than carbonated beverages, I wouldn't think you'd have problems consuming it. BUT, remember how many empty calories is in booze. :paranoid

You know, beer just doesn't taste so good to me anymore. But I do still drink wine--red. I also will have white russian. I get them though in a large glass w/lots of ice and I ask them to use 2% milk if they've got it.

I watched one guy make me a white russian for me (tall, lots of ice) and I forgot to tell him NF or 2% milk. I almost fell off my barstool when I watched him pour in the half & half. --it was yummy though.

Honestly? I wouldn't do it unless you are TOTALLY positive you won't be motivated to eat on top of it. Not that the booze would hurt you--it won't--but the relaxation of your stoma and your inhibitions might cause you to take a chance you woulnd't otherwise take. A brand new fill can take some getting used to, and you don't want to be doing that in the middle of a party.

But the booze itself won't hurt you.

I was just worried about my stomach being all irritated and in pain after the fill and that alcohol would just irritate it more Is it anything like after surgery or much milder than that? I have to come right back to work after the fill and I'm really hoping I won't be in pain or anything.

I had my fill today - Not a big deal AT ALL! ANyway, she (Dory Ferraro--very experienced LapBand NP) said that I should be able to drink alcohol no problem -- even tonight. Of course she warned about the empty calories but still, good to know I can Celebrate St Paddy's!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
