Your Progess-Feel Like I Should've Lost More At This Poing

Recommended Posts

I too have thought that my weight loss would have been more. I had surgery on 5/7/12 I am down 36 pounds, in 3 months. After reading the other replies. I guess I'd better be thankful and know that going slow is the key to keeping it off. Good Luck and keep up the good work.

It's understandable how many of you came to the conclusion that we should have lost more weight. Most of us were enticed into the lapband with grandiose visions of losing 10-12 lbs every month and the weight would simply fall off. The band would do it all. And of course, all of this would happen immediately after surgery. HA! Surprise, that aint happenin! Now you will have to work with your band, now you will have to learn to communicate with your band, now you will have to learn how and why your body reacts to different food choices. Many of us are still freshmen seeking a doctorate so be patient and stay the course.

I embellished this quote and don't recall where I stole it from:

The jealous competitor. – Don’t be jealous of others. Jealousy is the art of counting someone else’s blessings instead of your own. Stop comparing your journey with everyone else’s. Your journey is YOUR journey, NOT a competition. You are in competition with one person and one person only – yourself. You are competing to be the best you can be. If you want to measure your progress, compare yourself to who you were yesterday or last year.

Hey!! Listen, I am in the same boat and discouraged as well. I have lost 25lbs & I had my surgery 6/12/12. I lost most of my weight during my pre-op diet. In fact, 2 weeks ago I went for my first fill and the MD refused to fill me :o !! He wanted me to eat more Protein and less "softer" foods to see if I had true restriction. So Monday I will get my first fill. Thank goodness! I feel as if I am hanging by a thread.

Hang in there! If you need an ear.....I am always here!!

I had the same problem!! I thought I was doing great, but the doc said no. Eat more Protein - and more calories in general!! I gained 2lbs =( Getting my second fill tomorrow. I'm so freakin hungry all the time - getting told to eat more was a total head game. Not happy!

As for 33lbs since mid-April - GREAT JOB!!! I'm at 32 since 4/17. Slow and steady wins the race!!

2muchfun.....I love every thing you just said....thanks for sharing that. I had my band since 3/29 and have felt I have been doing horribly. I have lost 25 pounds and holding steady....lol. It is upsetting to know that this money was spent to help save my life and I can't get my head wrapped around this. I'm going to start going to a support group and try to exercise more. I need to make more time for ME!!!!!

Please keep in mind, Lap Band's literature says 1-2 lbs PER WEEK is what we can expect to lose, even if I cannot find it on their web-site at the moment. Remember, that weight loss is not really expected with a band until after you get your fills and have the help of the band.

This is not a quick weight loss type of surgery. I didn't start losing until my second fill.

What you lose before you get your band to the green zone is all about you and the habits you are changing.

Being banded is a journey, not a sprint. It's also a very individual journey. We want the weight gone NOW, but it just isn't going to happen that way. Bandsters don't have the malabsorption that bypass creates. It is all about calories in and calories expended.

You are doing fantastically well. Including my pre-op diet weight loss to 3.5 months out I had lost 8 lbs. I lost 8 lbs during my pre-op. I postponed my first fill due to a trip out of the country, so my second fill wasn't until about 3.5-4 months out.

Now 4.5 years later I am down about 75 lbs and easily maintaining it. I never worked hard to lose it.

20 lbs in 10 weeks is 2 lbs per week, that is AWESOME!!! You are NOT a flunkey! Keep up the good work. In a year that is about 100 lbs average. WOW! I could not do that on my own.

I think we all go through periods of feeling like it is not coming off as quickly as we would like. However, the important thing is that the weight is coming off. I was banded on 3/15/2012 and have lost 47, but that is 47 that I would not have lost without the help of my band. I have had tons of NSVs to make up for the scale not moving as quickly as I would like. More importantly, I am exercising and eating better, which is something I wasn't doing before. The clothing sizes dropping are the biggest thrill! When I first met with my wls doctor, I told him it wasn't about how many pounds that I wanted to lose, but I wanted to be healthier and be in "normal" clothing sizes. I have made both of those goals, so although I may have a lot of pounds to go, I know that I have been successful at my own pace.

Try not to compare yourself to other's weight loss. It is an individual journey, we all have different lifestyles, body frames, stress levels, and hereditary factors that will affect how quickly we lose. In addition, depending on how much you have to lose also makes an impact on the speed of loss.

Any weight loss is better than none! Go see if you can pick up 3 ten pound bags of dog food or 33 bags of sugar. It gives you a different perspective ;)

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.
