Have a horrible Migraine. 4 weeks post op. I know we were supposed to avoid aspirin and Advil. Was that just for beginning? Or can I take an excedrine now? (it has Tylenol and Advil in it)

Help!

I believe you can take it but it has to be liquid or chewable form, unless you've taken pills already and haven't felt restriction.

I was told only tylenol because the other pills have ingredients that may contribute to erosion.

I was under the same impression about Advil and erosion. But I'm approx 4 weeks out as well, and I've used Advil. If there is no restriction then your ok, but if there is and the Advil sits in that small little pouch and only moves slowly, then erosion could occur. Hope u feel better soon!!!

I checked with my surgeon when I first explored the lapband about pain medicine, given I'm allergic to paracetamol and typically rely on ibuprofen when I need it. I understood from some initial research that paracetamol for typical self medicated pain such as headaches, fever and injury was the preferred option for lap banders.

He confirmed the research i found, stating ibuprofen is best avoided given the issues it has with erosion, upsetting a sensitive stomach etc, however if it's consumed with food or a meal (to minimise the issues noted above) and it's only taken on occasions where it's necessary such as Migraine or extreme pain in a single or short term dose he was happy for me to continue to use it..

I'm 5 weeks out from surgery and had a terrible headache today. I took 2 Advil for the first time post surgery, along with drinking plenty of Water, stretching my shoulders and neck given I was sitting at a computer at work and tried a cup of tea (caffeine often helps me alleviate a headache) and something in that list has definitely helped and I even managed to get to the pool for a swim tonight.

id call and ask your dr if you wish to know the correct answer.

my dr said tylenol only. (you will find some that say its ok and some like me that say its not). id make a quick call to your doctor/nurse and ask.

My doctor says that Advil is ok but that really depends on the doctor.

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

The 14th was my day. I am home and recovery is going pretty smooth. They even let me walk out of the hospital. Picture of me in recovery curtesy of my boyfriend lol.

Neat you have a pic of this day! I was sooo happy to get my surgery. It was well worth it! And I'm not even near my goal. I had surgery Dec. 2!
