Minimum Calories?

Recommended Posts

I have heard many times before in my pre-band diet life that you shouldn't eat under 1200 calories a day because it throws your body into "starvation" mode and you start storing all your calories. Now, I've seen a lot people on here eating quite a bit less, and most days I eat a lot less. However, I haven't really lost weight in the past few weeks. Should I be trying to get in more calories? I get all my Protein in.

I really don't count calories. I just try to get the required amount of Protein and stick to portion sizes. I use the 3 meals and 2 Snacks plan trying to eat about every 3-4 hours. Even when I eat bad foods I still make sure to eat the portion size of about 1/2 cup.

I'm not tracking calories but maybe I will after the Band is in.

I am tracking calories basically as a side effect from tracking my Protein. I'm usually around 800 calories, high days may be around 1000. I feel pretty satisfied most of the time and usually I'm not tempted to eat morr. I wasn't too concerned about what I was taking in until I noticed I wasn't losing weight.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
