Hi all -- tomorrow (8/30) I join the band-wagon. I'm having the surgery done by Dr. Hansen in Salt Lake City. I've stuck to my pre-op diet like a gnat on flypaper and dropped over 33 pounds in 12 days -- still leaves me with a loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong road ahead of me, but at least I'm on it! :girl_hug:

Cascavel - Congrats on the 33lbs lost that is amazing!!! I am routing for a quick and easy recovery for you!

really slow losers?

anybody?

im workin it, im doing it daily. i keep track of my food intake at FitDay - Free Weight Loss and Diet Journal and since ive been rebanded May 24, ive lost TEN POUNDS and all of that just this last month. I have 7.5 in a 10cc AP band. Ive got restriction! im following recomended diets!

maybe it just took me a while to get at good restriction? i dunno. i do know that this coming month, from now till late september, will be very telling for me. If i drop another ten, then i think its all in my head and ill be right on my way...if not...then im screwing up somewhere.

ugh.

frustrated. Seems like everyone else who got banded in may is dropping forty to fifty lbs already.

lizrbit - 10lbs is great. Just remember we all lose at different speeds and that as long as the number is always going down you will never be back at your starting weight again!

First, I'm going to say well done on the four pounds. For the unbanded, that's not bad. It's better than nothing, that's for sure.

What else? Absolutely no salt, more exercise than usual and fewer calories (though I'm sure you're already doing that). Maybe you're just about to have a big jump down in wait. Just tell your doc how much you've been trying and that it's ToM. Drink eat very little the day of the follow-up.

Do you have diabetes/thyroid issues or something else? Sometimes medical conditions can stop people losing weight.

insubordination - Thanks, I know it's better than nothing. I am not quite posititve yet but it looks like I have lost 5 more lbs since Saturday, so you were probably right. I am just going to keep at my diet until I see the Doc and see where Igo from there.

I dont even know how much it costs here. I checked my ins and under benefit exculsions it says:

Medical and surgical services, initial and repeat, intended for the treatment or control of boesity, including clinically severe (morbid) obesity including: medical and surgical services to alter appearances or physical changes that are the result of any surgery performed for the management of obesity or clinically severe (morbi) obesity; and weight loss programs or treatments, whether prescribed or recommeded by a physician or unde rmedical supervision.

twizlerbabe20 - Did you look into those self-pay plans further. It looks like some of them do payment plans. Maybe you can do that?

you've lost 10 pounds ... how many inches ??

I saw your excersize progress bar for August,...CONGRATS on going past your goal for the month, that is awesome! How did you do it??? I have a question for you... How much exercise did you do in the beginning of your weight loss. For me I can walk some but too much and I start to get shooting pains down my sciatica even worse than normal. I'd say the most I do right now is about 20-25 minutes (at a very slow pace) only completing about 1/2 - 3/4 of a mile in that time frame.

hi apple,

thanks..

when i was first banded (i did not move before banding - exercise? why bother?? :)) i went for 8 minutes about 1.?? miles an hour on the treadmill. every time after, i increased another 2 or more minutes. i was finally able to go 45-60 mins on the treadmill. after doing that for several months (at an incline) i did get shin splints so i transitioned over to the elliptical which i have a love / hate relationship ... :D i started on the elliptical for 3 minutes and gradually built up again. i can now do a 9 minute mile at a resistance of 5 or 6 and can go for 60 minutes if i absolutely must. i do burn tons of cals on that stupid machine.

i just push myself to do it. i am reeeeeealllllly superstitious so my miles cant equal 13 - either alone or combined - so that helps push me a little more.

it looks like you are on the right path, you can do this. take it in 2 minute blocks. push yourself but not too hard initially.

For me walking really hurt me too much, huge back and ankle problems after about 20mins. I started to swim again and its perfect. i have worked up to 50 laps in about an hour. Thats 1450 Calories at my weight! I know its not for everyone but its really working for me. I was banded Aug 6th and could do none for 2 weeks. Then i started doing 6 days a week, hour a day and ive lost nearly 40lbs for the month of August.:faint:

I have a question. I have a 10cc band with 2cc in (1 fill). The doctor wanted to put more in last Wednesday but I told him I was not hungry and loosing pretty steadily so why mess with it. I guess I thought I only have 10cc and I don't want to fill up too quickly or I won't have any left to fill and still have weight to loose. I have so far to go still. Am I looking at this wrong?

If you are not hungry and stillm losing weight why have a fill. I have a 10cc band and have only been filled about 4 times, others have been filled to the limit. Each one of us are different. You'll know when you need a fill. Trust your body.

Forget the fill if you are doing okay. I have only had 1 fill and am happy with that. I know I will have room to fill some more if I need it.

You guys are all doing so great!!! Take a moment and be proud!!

Holy cr*p! I might make it! I weighed myself on the bulk mail scale 'round back of the post office today and I'm 15lbs down from 7/31. I'm supposed to lose 20-25 before my surgery on 9/19.

I am doing a major happy dance! (how many calories does happy dancing burn, any way?)

Good effort. You'll get there.

WYD Congrats to on losing 40 pounds in August. Even better is committing to the exercise 6 days a week. I just joined a gym on Friday but I'm aiming for 4 days a week. So far, so good. One of my knees didn't like it but I can tell I'm not going to injure it.

I'm just starting with the treadmill and bike and maybe the rowing machine next week. I just watch the video clips they play and time goes very quickly. Then my exercise is done and I'm happy. I also bought some hand weights and will try doing regular arm exercises (I'm seem to carry a lot of fat in my arms, which is really annoying).

One thing I've noticed in the past few days is that my moody depression/despair schtick seems to have lifted. I want to do things on the weekend rather than stay at home and sleep a lot. I have my fingers crossed that I'm now on an 'up phase' instead of down.

Insub - I admire you for joining the gym. Regular exercise will help lift your mood.

I am working up to that. I have done regular exercise once in my life, when I lost 100lbs before, but I think that was only for 6 months. I really want to get going!

I am really close to no longer being SUPER obese! Then I get to be morbidly obese - which sounds worse I think, but I will take it!

Hiya, found this thread really inspiring. To see how much people are losing is great and you seem very supportive.

I am from London and have always been massive! I used to tell myself I will be then by the time I finish school, then it was at the end of College, then uni and it got to the stage where I knew a diet wasn't gonna do it! The most I ever lost was 6st (84lbs) but then I started to put that back on. I got back up to 340lbs and I knew I had to do something, so I took the plunge and got in touch with a private health company who specialised in bariatric surgery and within 6 weeks I was booked in! I got banded on the 25th August and including the pre-op diet I have lost 25lbs to date.

I have to lose the equivalent of 2 children (quite big ones!) but I don't care, I finally feel like this is gonna work. I have never been thin so I don't know what I look like but already I feel great and I have noticed that without the sugar and bread I am not having cravings for stodgy food and chocolate. Maybe Atkins really was onto something!! The British still don't really go in for low carb but I reckon when I can eat again I'm gonna do a low fat version!

Anyway just wanted to join in because I am on a long wagon ride and thought some company would be nice!!

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
