A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Recommended Posts

I dont really worry about failing. I know I will be successful with it. I also know it is a long road. I have been overweight all my life. I think others expect me to fail, which is discouraging and disappointing. I just wish others would keep their mouths shut if they cant be supportive.

But I will succeed. Dammit I will !!!

People ask me all the time how much have I lost and I am usually saying the same amout. LOL I looked a chart I created and I see how much time I been wasting not exercising. I lost 32 pounds for the calendar year of 06. I am not happy about that. I was not consistant with my exercise and would eat when my band losened. Now I see my mistakes in the past so I am trying hard to be consistant. I have set some short term goals and I am going to reach them because I know how now.

I don't worry about other people anymore because I now realize that this is a SLOW Journey. You get what you give and I plan on giving a whole lot more this year.

Wisdom is a wonderful thing.

Okay I want in on this thread! It feels like it will take forever to get all this weight off! I see people starting weight at 240 (my current weight) My starting BMI was 57 (I think) I started at 360. My insurance wouldn't pay for the AGB till I lowerd my BMI to 50. I am glad that you started this thread. Thanks!

Congrats NYKEE, a 100 lbs is a lot of weight. You'll like me, when I reached the 100 lb mark I didn't see much of a change either. But people around me are telling me everyday how much I've lost or how good I look. I've had about 6 people to tell me that they really did not know WHO I was, they didn't recongize me. I'm like :wow2: So even tho you can't tell much of a difference but I bet those around you notice a difference.:clap2:

Hey Nykee, it's great to see you again. Seemed like you took a bit of a sabatical from the board. ;) 100 lbs is great. Would you like some help brainstorming what's going on? Don't give up on the band. Plateaus can be brutal. Stalls can be even more brutal. I once stalled for about 7 months. It's hard to keep going when you aren't seeing anything to motivate you. I think we can all sympathize. And trust me, there's NO WAY 100 lbs isn't noticeable. I look in the mirror and think, "Same old fat me"... and then I look at the pants I"m going to wear and think, "They're so tiny, there's no way they'll fit"... and they do. It just takes a while for our brains to catch up with our eyes.

2bthinagain - have we talked before? I'm in KCMO. Are you in KS or MO? Do you have a surgeon picked out?

Well - after my emergency unfill the week before last, I'm going back in for a fill Wednesday. There will be a learning curve, I'm sure... because even though I'm still at 2cc in my 4cc band, I have virtually no restriction. I hope my behaviors haven't slacked. I've maintained the weight...a ctually up 2 #, but that's a WELCOMED gain, because during the 4 days I was too tight I drank a total of about 8 oz water... I'll take a few pounds if it means I'm hydrated again. :D

My loss is really uneven. Enough that - while heavy I was always proportionate, I'm now disproportionately large on bottom. By nearly 2 sizes. :omg: My pants today are a 24 jeans (no idea what brand but I bought them at Gordman's... holy cow! I didn't have to go to a fat store! Just the fat department in a regular store!) LOL And my top is an 18/20.

I was trying to scratch that elusive spot on my back lastnight and realized - wow, I can actually feel my spine. I'm not talking vertebra, but a long "lump". My back has always been too fat to feel it before. And my shoulderblades actually stick out now. Wtf is up with that? But on the flip side of that, my butt & thighs still look like a big white sock full of quarters. :faint:

Nursie, i dream of losing one hundred, of what thats like and the possibility of KEEPING it off this time. outstanding.

You guys are so supportive. Im glad i found you.

im still trying to get approved. I keep hearing this voice in the back of my head trying to prepare me for the fact that my insurance likely wont do an out of network referral...but today i got a deal from my pcp and his nurse saying she faxed the requested letter to my physician as well as to the insurance!!! Its possible this might happen!

Im back on the book!

im just about done with all my tests. Im trying to be patient, im trying to eat smaller portions so that ill be ready for the liquid diet (which i already have been told the surgeon will make anyone over three hundred do) and i know...so...tomorrow i do the sleep test, and i see the surgeon Feb 5.

im trying to be ready.

i want this so very much. Im ready!

Hi there Lizrbit,

My insurance company said i had to be between 40 and 50 on a bmi. My surgeon pursueded them and I got my surgery. If you use an out of network surgeon sometimes the insurance will reimburse you 80% and you pay the other 20. however I will tell you the surgery is expensiv and the post op room is 16,000 on average! If you can find a surgeon in network I suggest switching. Also find Lap Band support groups in your areea and talk to the people. find out who they used. I would never use a surgeon I didn't know, or didn't have reccomended to me.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
