A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

To the patients in that group who's free fills may be cut off early:

You are that doctors free advertising. He needs your "word of mouth" to spread through the community to bring in more bariatric patients. More importantly, he doesn't need people talking about him reneging on promises, whether he can do it contractually or not. Get together and give him an ultimatum.

I hope all the complications of his patients are being handled at his expense.

Just my 2¢ worth.

Thanks TiredOldMan, but I haven't gotten the letter, so I think it's not retroactive, so I should still get my fills that I signed up for.

By the way, if anyone ever feels intimidated by a doctor, just remember this story:

A world renowned surgeon who died suddenly in a terrible car accident awoke to find himself on a cloud. He saw a long line and he asked an angel flying by, "what is the lines for?" The angel told the doctor that the line lead to the entrance to Heaven. Being disoriented but curious, he walked around taking in the wondrous sights from the outside. He marveled at the pearly gates, as well as the streets paved with gold. After a while, he decided that he had better get on line, but he found that the line was over a mile long when he took his place at the end.

The line was progressing very slowly when a limo pulled up in front and discharged a man with a great beard and carrying two stone tablets who went in ahead of everyone else. The surgeon became angry and tapped the person in front of him on the shoulder and asked, "who is that?" The person in front of him replied that it was Moses, the bringer of law. This satisfied the doctor for the present.

A few hours later, another limo pulled up and discharged a fellow wearing purple robes and carrying a staff who also went in ahead of the rest. The surgeon again was irritated and asked the person in front of him who that arrival was, and was told that it was Pope John-Paul the 2nd! This also satisfied the surgeon for a short time.

After another long period of time, a sports car pulled up in front and a man carrying a black bag, wearing surgical scrubs, went in ahead of the rest, which infuriated the world renowned surgeon who yelled in exasperation, "that is a doctor and he can't be any more famous than me, so just who the hell is that?"

This time the whole line answered in unison, "Oh, that's God! He just thinks that he is a doctor!"

Hi! This is my very first post in your forum. I just had my lapband procedure on June 9th, 2006. Today was my first post-op visit. When I started my BMI was 51.2. I am 5'9" and my starting weight was 347. I found out today that I am down 15 lbs which is amazing to me! :-) My mini goal at this point is to get below 300. Once I make that goal I will set another one for myself.

Ok guys, I've been hovering between 307.2 and 306.8 for a week and a half now. I have a fill scheduled for today, so I'll also get an "official" weign in on the surgeon's scale. I'm officially in all of my 26s now, and some are too big, so that's another half a size or so down - but I still cannot wait for the terribly shallow thrill of seeing Twoterville on the scale...

So glad for this link. I was beginning to think I was the only one with a large amount to loose. My BMI was well over 50 before banding on June 15, 06, just a little over a week ago. I know what it is like to be 120 lbs, my goal, I was there in High School and for a couple years when I was younger and doing heavy work, but that was long ago. I'm 5'2" with small frame and this weight of 312 is tooooo much for me to handle. I weighed at 330 preop. 160' was most of the time, but after other health problems, I've been upper 200 and over 300 for several years now. I'm looking forward to a loosing scale.< /p>

Even when you have a lot to lose, every bit helps. There's about 60 lbs difference in these sets of pictures. It makes the other 100 seem... easier I think.

Thanks

Yeah I was walking by my parents computer and saw all these old pictures of me, and it was crazy. I didn't have a lot of before pictures, so its hard to really see the difference if you don't.

Pfunkem, I am with you on the before's, I hated cameras still. It will be a while before I am comfortable with them and then look out! I am in cosmetology school right now and the hardest thing is having to see myself in all those mirrors! EEK!!! But it is getting better.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Your so close now! It's gonna be great :) Wishing you a speedy recovery and looking forward to seeing how it goes!

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!

Hi everyone! I’m brand new here. I just went through all my pre-op requirements per my insurance company and now everything has been submitted and I’m just waiting for final approval and my surgery date. I’ve been doing research, watching YouTube videos, TikTok’s, ect.. trying to prepare my mind and what to expect so I’ll be ready for the surgery. I was so sure and so set and so ready and excited. However, now that I’ve done everything & it’s almost here, I am sooooooo scared! I know why I want it bc I’ve tried everything and I just don’t feel like I can lose weight by myself. I’m tired of being overweight my entire life. I’m miserable, but I keep psyching myself out afraid of GERD bc I know how that can be and I don’t want to have to get a bypass after already gaining the courage to even get VSG. I’m scared of complications like I’mgoing to regret doing it and be depressed that I didn’t just be more disciplined and try again to lose the weight on my own even sitting here typing this knowing in my mind i just can’t and don’t possess the discipline. I’m also afraid I won’t be able to handle the restrictions of the sleeve. What do I eat? I don’t know how to eat healthy really and don’t enjoy healthy food. I don’t know how to do this! I feel so defeated!Someone tell me they felt anything similar to this or am I not ready? I thought I was. I am so tired of being sick and tired and so tired of myself and so tired of being stuck and stuck in this body and somebody different on the outside from what I feel inside. I just want to ball up and cry.

Am feeling this right now. My surgery date is 4/1. Sign the consent tomorrow. I feel like I overloaded myself with too much info, too many opinions. Got to the point where I was wondering if I should do this. Then I thought of my reasons for taking this step and that settled my nerves. Still get moments of doubt but am striving forward. Am just going to follow my book from the surgeon. Joined this because I was told by my dietician that I should do this for support
