A thread for super-sized bandsters - starting BMI over 50?

Zannie I feel for you.

We couldn't afford it either, no health insurance right now, my husband is self employed. Fortunately my parents stepped up and paid for everything. Not everyone is that lucky but I had a woman say to me a long time ago. Don't you think you are worth the price of a new car? And I said to myself heck yeah I am worth more than that. I guess what I am saying is, you and your health are worth every penny, and as soon as you can find a way, do it! Finance it, take our a second mortgage anything. Good luck :)

Good Morning Everyone,

I have been reading all these posts about us supersized folks. I feel better now, I had my Surgery on Dec.20th,2005 ( what a day to have it, 4 days before our xmas gathering, lol) I started out at 336 pounds,I have always said I was 5'8 but the dr's office said I am 5'6.5. So My BMI started out at 54.2. I have had 3 fills already and am currently filled with 7cc's. I have lost 34 Lbs in a little over 5 months, which makes me a slow loser.(current BMI 48.7) I have lost 27 inches(my mom is a seamstress and measures me when i think about it). I am a very busy person and i do go work out at the gym( haven't been in over a week cause I have not had time, but i have been busy mowing and cleaning the yard). I love this time of year cause i can get outside.

I have been discouraged cause when i seem to work at losing so hard my weight just sits there.Seems its laughing at me saying HA HA keep on.Like a little devil. I know being as big as I am( largest was 370) I do feel much better and my clothes are very loose. I know its getting there but i am just a slow one.

I want to thank all of you for makeing me realize that I am doing Good. Have a GREAT DAY EVERYONE!!!

I started my journey from the land of lard on 9/18/03. I started with a weight of 340 lbs. I have lost 132 lbs. It was SO WORTH IT!!! They would have to pry my lapband from my cold, dead hands! Whatever you have to face or go through, don't get discouraged. I have been obese since high school and come from an obese family. I weighed 12 lbs. and 9 1/2 ozs. the day I was born. I wore a size 26/28 when I started. I am now a size 14/16. It is a whole different world. People treat you like a real person. That is not to say that I am justifying the way overweight people are treated. I do however, enjoy the benefits of being able to breath and talk and walk at the same time. Restaurant booths are a joy. The way my husband looks at me is a thrill. He is so proud. I know that the lapband process is not all roses but it is the best thing I have seen so far. After losing my weight I decided to go ahead and get rid of the apron (yuk! what a word) of flab I had and have a face lift. That was wonderful. I would still like to lose a little more weight but that will happen very slowly and with more exercise. I walk and bike. What fun! Life is good. Smile while you shrink!!!!! I am attaching a photo (not my best but what an improvement). :) :) :)

you look great! congratz on the loss! that is awesome. you are an inspiration. I hope all goes as well for me. I am actually waiting to hear from the plastic surgeon to see if I can have my apron removed prior to surgery. If I can it will make working out so much easier and enjoyable!!

I don't know how I could have missed this thread for so long. I started out with a BMI of 57.5 on November 3, 2005 when I was banded. I have lost 80 pounds and as far as I am concerned I have 80 more to lose. That should put me at my goal size of a 16. That should be just fine for my 5'10" frame. My doctor wants me to lose a total of 220#. I have asked him to stay out of his drug cabinet. LOL!

Hello, everyone.

I pop in here from time to time. As far as I know, my paperwork was sent off to the insurance company yesterday. My surgeon requires all his bariatric patients to go through a private surgery center, which is NOT covered by insurance. The concpet is good, you get support, diet and exercise counseling, even a clothing swap with other members. The part that sold me on it was that they coordinate everything with the insurance company and the other doctors I may need to see, pulmonary specialists, etc.

The center is not so good, however, on managing that paper work. I harass them from time to time and I think all is on schedule.

Getting nervous now. And excited. I have'nt read older posts, is anyone near their surgery date or recently banded? Be cool to compare notes. The center here has a list of members, but so far there aren't too many internet-savvy ones.

Anyway, that's what I needed to get out and onto the page. Not too many of my friends know I am getting banded, it's kind of a private thing.

I am glad you all are here. I would like to be at least an 18-20 by my 34th birthday in October.

I was happy to see this post. It has been really encouraging to see some of the people that have lost over 100 lbs. I have so far to go, but at least for once I've started. I've had great difficulty losing weight. I've had some weird things happen since surgery (reactions to meds., hormones, etc.). When I went to my Dr., she said you finally have a metabolism. I don't remember my BMI, but it was hi. Today it felt so good to have a 3x top fit instead of a 6x.

WAHOOOOOOOO!

My scale now longer cries out in agony! It gives me a number!!!!!!!!!

330lbs and that is gonna be the scale I stick with so from here out it should be fairly accurate. Meanwhile A total loss of 20lbs and not even a fill yet. I know many lose much more in the beginning, but maybe this means I won't hit as many plateaues, a girl can hope after all

Woo! My plateau seems to be over! I'm not quite putting faith in it yet, because the past has taught me that every time I think "maybe I'll be able to lose a little more consistently" is right about when I hit another plateau, but my fingers are crossed!

According to home scale, which I used about two weeks ago and didn't use again until this morning, I've lost about 12 more lbs and am now in the 300-teens. Who knows if that number is reliable, but I like it! You know what that means?

Less than 20 to go until I'm in Twoterville!

(also means that according to home scale I've lost about 65 lbs!)

I haven't had the lap band yet -- losing weight TO have it. BUT I'm nearing the 400 mark. I can't wait to cross over it. This morning I weigh 403.

Hi, I’m new here. I’m currently on the liver shrinking diet. So far so good, but I have to say I haven’t found a protein shake I like. Anyone have any suggestions please? My surgery date is September 17th.

Fairlife Core are by far the best. They taste just as they are - chocolate milk. You can either get the 26 grams or the 42 grams (harder to find and more expensive). For straight protein look at Bulksuppliments.com ..they have really good whey proteins and offer auto ship plus they test for purity. No taste or smell...

      2. BlondePatriotInCDA

Fairlife has strawberry, vanilla and of course chocolate. No more calories than other protein drinks. Stay away from Premiere, they're dealing with lawsuits due to not being honest about protein content.
