2savemylife 2 Posted July 30, 2012 i am 5 days post op, and have been so exhausted since my surgery I have mainly been resting. I have been having some trouble with gas however, so I decided to do a lil light exercise so i did about 20 mins on my rec. bike and then went for a shower, and I had to lean against the shower walls because I was soo exhausted . Is this normal?

2012 359 Posted July 30, 2012 Same here, my first week I couldn't believe how much I was sleeping. I could take 2-3 hour long naps and still go to bed at night, which is not normal for me . But you are healing, the surgery is minimally invasive, but still major surgery, so let your body recoup, your energy will come back soon. 1 2savemylife reacted to this
Toddy 758 Posted July 30, 2012 The first week I couldn't hold my arms over my head long enough to Shampoo my hair, much less dry it. I had to sit immediately after going upstairs. It was awful and totally unexpected! I felt I started getting some strength and stamina back once I started eating. After the seventh day post-surgery, I was pretty much back to normal, but I haven't forgotten those early days. I have a friend that is getting ready to have lap-band because she has seen my success... I told her I wouldn't come near her that first week because she will hate my guts! 1 2savemylife reacted to this
slojo67 125 Posted July 30, 2012 Make sure you're getting your Protein in somehow. It helps you keep up, and it helps you lose weight... 1 2savemylife reacted to this

musicgirl713 7 Posted July 30, 2012 I think it is pretty normal... I was that way too. I think part of it may be dehydration...our bodies go through a lot with surgery and all we are giving it back is liquid. I know that the first week I was only permitted to have Clear liquids so I couldn't get in any Protein and I actually had a really hard time drinking, so I know a big part of my problem was dehydration. Just keep drinking as much as you can. I hope you feel better!
fericito 138 Posted July 30, 2012 You'll be feeling normal again soon - but yes I think that's pretty common. I mostly sit at work and had two weeks off but was so surprised how hard that first day back was - mostly just exhausting like you said. It does get better. 2 2savemylife and slojo67 reacted to this
Sarah72 21 Posted July 30, 2012 This is so reassuring to me! I, too, just had surgery last week and can't believe how tired I am all the time! I hope I turn the corner on this soon! 1 2savemylife reacted to this

kcg 6 Posted August 8, 2012 As others have written, it`s quite normal but I would suggest that you ensure good intake of Protein, Water and Vitamins especially Iron. This coupled with light exercise helps. Hopefully the tiredness has subsided by now. 1 2savemylife reacted to this
