Hypoglycemic Crashes

Recommended Posts

Has anyone experienced a problem with "crashing" after eating in the morning or at any other times during the day? I find that since my fill on Monday... When I eat solid food in the AM it is followed by what I imagine is a bloodsugar drop with shaking...sweating... weakness and a generalized "I feel like Jello" sensation. THis usually happens within 10-15 minutes after eating. The first two times it happened I had FF/SF yogurt mixed with a 1/2 cup of cottage cheese and this morning it happend in a milder form after having 3 bites of scrammbled eggs and cheese. I'm not really terribly concerned... I just find it interesting and a bit odd and I'm wondering if anybody else has experienced this?

Weird, I have had the same thing. I was just banded on March 9, 2006 and it happened after eating yogurt.. anyone out there know why?

Because you're both weird? :) *laughs*

Seriously, I've had this happen in the past and even to this day I get very very tired right after I eat. Like I could fall asleep. I'll be watching this thread to see if anyone has an answer.

Me too, sometimes I feel it, I feel like some kind of weakness (After eating), and sleepe, but let´s say that an hour later, my energy comes back, I feel my energy normal. But in my case, I don´t have the lap-band on. And that´s true, is it called the "sugar-drop" feeling.

I can't even eat of the morning, so it is a Protein Shake for me and I have no problems, sometimes when I get too many carbs ( I am on a low carb diet) I get really tired and don't do to well for a few hours, otherwise I have plenty of energy.

This may not be blood sugar related - do you have a diebetes monitor? If so, test your sugar to see if you actually do have a low sugar level. If so, then ask your doctor about what you can do.

Even if you don't have a low sugar level, you should probably talk to your doctor/surgeon about your symptoms.

I think you should just eat a chocolate covered Peanut Butter egg first thing, avoid that sugar drop, :biggrin1: .

Now, WHY didnt I think of this??? wonderful solution!

Darcy, funny you bring this up *winky-wink*....

Ive been having a problem with my blood sugar dropping too. My problem only happens in the morning - NEVER afternoon or evening. And it seems to happen when I eat a protien for Breakfast. When I drink a shake, it may still happen - but to a lesser degree.

On another thread (something about hypoglycemic's), I posted this problem. I think it was Wheetsin that linked it to my morning coffee. I had 3-4 cups loaded with sugar and cream. She said the coffee spiked my insulin.

Im wanting to believe this.

After I posted this problem, I developed a "bug" and had to do w/o my morning "fix" (coffee) for 2 mornings.

Strange, I didnt have the crash when I didnt have the coffee.

But, once I felt better and started my sugary coffee again, it started happening... again!

This has something to do with my night time fasting - THEN a BIG boost of sugar.

hmmm.....

I dont think this really has ANYTHING to do with the band.

I've had this issue pre-banding as well as post banding. :phanvan

hmmm....coffee. i hope not. but i only have coffee in the morning. a 10oz cup, and often i don't finish it. still after lunch or dinner (I don't often do breakfast) I am so useless. i often have to lay my head down, i just can't not do it.

What is this monitor? Is it something any one can pick up? Or is there something else for at home testing?

I don't trust my docs for much of anything. Almost every test I take says I am normal and I am anything but. :)

I think glucose monitors are fairly expensive when not covered by insurance bit I will definitely tell my M.D. when I go in for the dreaded annual this year. Maybe be can do a glucose tolerance test as opposed to the simple fasting blood sugar test.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
