Congratulations that's awesome. did you ever get discouraged? I feel pretty discouraged now since I haven't lost in 3 months but then again I haven't been back in to the doctor since the end of May. But I'm very happy for you way to go.

I did experience plateaus, I went back to my dr every 3 weeks for the first year. Sometimes I got an adjustment sometimes it was just for accountability & nutrition talk.

After the first year I lost about 80 lbs, and it seemed like it was "free". I had to do very little. I didn't exercise and definitely didn't worry much about nutrition . I plateaued big time in year two. Only lost 2 lbs, I thought I needed a fill thinking more was better. I realized that wasn't the case, after 4 unfills I realized that I needed to divorce myself from the # in my band. I found that it actually worked better with far less Fluid. I had excellent appetite suppression and provided that I followed the rules in my Guide to Success I felt satisfied.

I added exercise to my routine and started maintaining a 1400 cal diet. (I'm very tall) and managed to lose over 50 lbs last year.

Exercise, nutrition & Portion Control are now just a part of my daily life. The iPhone app myfitness pal has helped tremendously.

I feel like I'm the real me for the first time in my life. I'm not hiding behind my weight anymore.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
