Too Much Food

Recommended Posts

We've had company for the past several days and I've been tempted to eat more. But the more I'm eating is Protein. I'm having about 3 ozs of turkey breast for lunch and dinner plus an oz of fruit or vegetables. This AM for Breakfast I had 2 slices of bacon, cantaloupe and 3 bites of a breakfast casserole and was very full. I've noticed no weight loss, but I haven't had a fill yet, sx 7/10. Do you lose more weight once you get a fill? Or am I going to have to go back to Protein Shakes to jump start the losing process again?

What you're eating sounds good. One thing people really don't seem to be well educated about pre-surgery is the fact that the band really won't help much with weight loss until you have enough fills to reach restriction (I know nobody ever mentioned this to me). Until you reach restriction (which is different for everyone - in my case a little after my third fill and really good after my fourth fill) you're on your own with dieting and it sounds like you're doing really well. During this period is a good time to practice proper band eating skills! Hang in there because it does get better!!

Are you supposed to be on solids at this point? I was still on mushies on day 19. In general my doctor says 3 z of solid Protein plus veggies so I don't think you are over eating. Remember when you're on a super low cal liquid diet you loose weight faster than eating higher cal. solids (even if those solids are healthy foods).

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
