Has anyone experienced problem with dairy products after being banded? Seems lately when I drink milk I have horrible cramps in my stomach and chest. I'm taking small sips not sure if this is common.

I am fine with milk! (having to use it for cream of soups) I usually drink silk milk though.

I haven't really heard of anyone having issues with dairy products, but everyone is different.

Not sure what's going on with me lately but I've always been a milk drinker and now can't handle any dairy products. solid food has been a problem : (

I'm ok with dairy but think I'm better off without it ;) which has been hard for me to let go of. I am sorry that you're struggling and I hope it works out. What kind of problems with solids? How far post op are you? I had solids for the first time today and I think it's stuck so I'm not happy but this too shall pass...

yes i have. Ive been banded coming on four months now. i was using skim milk in my Protein Shakes and was ill with pain. i wasnt sure if it was my gall bladder but i was a mess.. anyway, i had to start thinking about what id eaten or drunk that ive not usually had. im not a milk user normally. i cut the milk out of the Protein shake... just had some greek yoghurt... and within 12 hours the pain had gone. so... yes, in my opinion i reckon it does affect some people. i have no idea why but for me it was very painful... nearly crippled me.

Yes, i cant handle milky coffees anymore, cheese and yogurt are fine, and cold skim milk in amounts such as a bowl of Cereal, but warmed, ugh. Nausea followed by gas.

I was banded 4/4/12. I had a fill Tuesday 2.5 cc. I tried mashed potatoes without milk and they actually stayed down. I think I'm going to say away from dairy for a few days and see if I can handle real food again. Thanks everyone : )

Two months out from hiatal hernia repair.  Surgeon said to expect a lot more flatulence...something about the 'air' no longer being able to 'burp' out so comes out the other end.  That is my experience but have no understanding of why that swallowed air cannot be 'burped'. ???

As I understand it since your stomach is smaller and not completely resting against your diaphragm anymore you no longer have the ability to "push" burps out as well. Plus, since its smaller and we don't digest slower the trapped air moves a lot quicker out of the stomach so its no longer available to burp out. Hence the other option for removal.

Me too girl!! Are you in the full liquid diet right now? It’s sooooo hard!

      2. LadyVeteran1

Not yet. I was told I only have to do 24 hours of a liquid diet. But I have my pre-op tomorrow so I’m going to confirm if I need to do longer.

Down 33 lbs and slightly stalled, but I'm gonna reevaluate and push through. I started back to work last week after 2 years of being disabled due to mental health as well as my weight. It's a great job and I'm just so happy to have this opportunity at a second chance at life. Hope everyone is having their best journey ❤️ Together, we got this!
