Help! Not Getting Full :0

Recommended Posts

I had the lap band with imbrication surgery on July 3rd and I'm not getting full like I should. I was mistaken and thought I was supposed to be eating 1 cup of food but obviously I should have only been having 1/2 cup. I've been eating alot of baked potatoes. I'm freaking out thinking that something is wrong with my band because i'm just not getting full even with 1+ cup of food! What should I do??

Thanks

First, most surgeons say a cup of food or less but double check with your surgeon to be safe. It might be different with plication.

Second, you're not supposed to feel full with the band, you're supposed to feel satisfied (aka, not hungry) with less food for longer periods of time. Just because you physically can eat more food does not mean you should, nor should you be expecting a feeling of stuffed full.

Third, I am guessing you have no fills yet. Most people take at least a couple fills before they have good restriction, so be patient, it will come.

Since you haven't had any fills yet, you have no restriction. With no restriction it's normal to be hungry all the time and be able to eat almost anything. At this point you are going to have to "diet" on your own and stick to the 1 cup meals, even if you want more.

Also, you mention you've been eating a lot of potato. That's fine, but your meals should be mostly Protein. That's what keeps you full for the longest.

Just been waiting until time for my consult with my bariatric surgeon. It's scheduled for Jan 9th. Turns out I won't actually be seeing him. Apparently it'll be with his P.A.             Not sure what to expect. I thought this is where the surgeon would discuss the best surgery option for me. For years I had my heart set on the sleeve, but I've read so many people have issues with reflux - even if they've never had it before - that they've had to be revised to the bypass. I already deal with GERD & take 40 mg of Omeprazole daily, so I started studying about bypass and honestly, it seems like it might be the better choice for me. How can we discuss surgery options if the surgeon is not there?
What happened at your first consult? Trying to get an idea of what to expect, or maybe I should say, what NOT to expect.

I would like to know what questions you wish you had asked prior to your duodenal switch surgery?
