Anyone Not Lost The Amount Of Lbs Required During Pre-Op?

Recommended Posts

Week one I lost seven lbs. By day two of second week I lost 2 more lbs. So I was so excited, thinking I'd lose more than the 10lbs required. Now it's PMS time and the scale shows that I've GAINED 3lbs!!! Surgery is scheduled for Monday and my nerves are shot! Has anyone not reached the required weight during pre-op and if so did your doctor still perform the surgery?

My surgeon did not have a strict,"you need to lose this much weight". He just wanted my liver to be less fat. I am sure that everything will be okay. Just stick to the diet your surgeon gave you. Best wishes.Karen

Thanks Ladies! That gives me hope :) I walked 3 miles this morning instead of 2 and I'll do it again tomorrow. Not much else I can do except pray for the best.

I gain at TOM. I would just keep your salt intake down. My doctor did not weigh day of surgery. Last weigh in was about two weeks prior.

You should do fine the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver, sounds like your liver will be suffiently shrunk! LOL

Exercise is essential, and definitely watch your intake of salt, as that usually adds to Fluid retention.

I had to be under the weight set by my surgeon by my pre op appointment which was 3 weeks prior to my surgery date...otherwise, surgery would be rescheduled. He enforces this policy strictly. I lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks, with increased exercise, high protein/low carb diet and strict Portion Control. I was 8 pounds under the weight I needed to be by the pre op appointment.

Best wishes...I hope everything goes as planned!

Just stay on the plan, I lost 15 of the 25- 30 they wanted.my doctor said my liver was almost half it's original size when he went in.I was very afraid but my doc said ( after the fact) he was less concerned about number and more that I stuck to the diet to get the desired shrinkage he wanted.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
