well I'm no expert on the subject but to answer your question when you have restriction in your band or eat too big of a bite or don't chew your food really well the food cannot pass thru the hole/band that is around your smaller stomach that was created for you and pass thru to the lower stomach eventually and therefore gets stuck in there and it is painful and is very or can be gross and you may eventually throw it up like I do. I tend to salivate alot, spit up frothy mess and slimy mess then eventually throw up. go to lapband.com it may explain it better there or google it or look on youtube, just a thought. You might coulld get a visual of how food gets stuck. Hope this helps.
