July 20Th Bandsters, How Are You Doing?

Recommended Posts

One week post op and doing really well. I think I would be almost 100% but gas struck on Tuesday :(. I think I could walk to the moon and it woudn't help. Gas-x I'm not so sure about. But it will pass. I get to start soft foods tomorrow and regular food on 8/4/12. Had my first post op appointment yesterday and I am 7 lbs down. Lost 18 lbs pre op. Let me know how you are doing!! Have a fantastic weekend!!

I'm not a July 20th Bandster but I am a July 19th Bandster :) I am STARVING! I called my dr. yesterday and spoke with the nurse. She said I can't move on to soft food until he sees me... which isn't until next week :( So I'm still just doing the creamy liquid diet. I've made LOTS of smoothies and I've been eating babyfood (fruits and stuff... the pouch things).

So far I have lost 14 lbs since the pre-surgery diet.

I am a 19th banded too and I'm doing pretty well. I'm still on my full liquids stage too and am drinking a lot of smoothies. I'm enjoying trying different Soups too though. My biggest complaint is that I have thrush and it makes some things taste awful, like Water. It doesn't matter what I mix with it, it's still awful! Apple juice tastes wonderful for some reason so I'm drinking a lot of that. I'm definitely not getting the 64 ounces of Fluid my doctor recommends.

Which soups are you finding that you like? I can't stand a lot of them... I'm just having a hard time with the "cream of" soups. They seem to rich to me!

My dad makes a milk base Soup that has seafood seasonings and it's so good. We made it the other night with some grilled catfish. He made the Soup and then took out the catfish for my part... It still had the flavor and it was sooo good. I lived off of the broth soup they serve at Japanese habachi restaurants. I also love potato soup. I haven't found that any of it is too rich for me... You might want to try thinning it with some chicken broth or something.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
