Nurtrition From Your Point Of View

Recommended Posts

Hello, I am newly banded. I had surgery about a month ago. I have lost about 17 lbs. I wanted to know how many grams of Protein, fat, carbs, etc. do you have each day to be satisfied and successful.

I probably shouldn't answer this but I don't count anything. I'm eating less but eating healthy. I still lose weight. Everyone will be different. Men seem to need more calories than women. Since I've cut out most white food(flour, sugar, dairy) I really don't worry about carbs. I seem to be able to eat meat with no problem so I eat 4-8 ozs per dinner meal.

You'll find that some bandsters find it helpful and in some cases vital to count grams of everything. I just don't want to live my life that way. I spend far toomuch time obsessing about weight loss as it is and calculating every gram of fat, carb and Protein would take toomuch time and cause toomuch stress. From my point of view.

BTW-I do allow for some whole wheat thin breads or low carb tortillas, one hershey's bliss dark chocolate, 2 8 oz skinny latte's and some sprinkles of low fat cheese for my morning omelette. I just do it in extreme moderation.

So true about stressing over grams of everything. I guess because I am new to this I need a little bit of reassurance that I will drop the weight. I am still learning about my new body and trying to figure out the best approach for maximum weight loss. Thanks for your reply and congrats on your weight loss.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
