Lap Band Friendly Veggies?

Recommended Posts

OK, I've been doing well so far, I know mostly what I can and can't eat. I know I can't eat really greasy stuff, nor can I have fibrous foods, they get stuck. I'm trying to find more fruits and veggies I can eat, but I don't wanna go through the whole list, and end up getting stuck more than usual. So does anyone know which fruits and veggies aren't fibrous? I know I'm safe with corn, potatos, tomatos, peas, onions, peppers, strawberries, bananas, cooked apples, tangelos, mandarians, and cooked carrots. The ones I can't have are lettuce of any type, raw apples, broccoli, spinach, celery, and asparagus.

I like squash and zucchini. Especially spaghetti squash! I love cherries, watermelon, grapes, peeled apples and kiwi. I also love green Beans and cooked spinach. I like most veggies cooked. Im really not a raw veggie eater but I do like carrots and grape tomatoes. Good luck finding some you like and work!!

Haven't had a problem with any. I know a lot of people have trouble with lettuce, but I eat it almost daily.

I have 4.5cc's in band so far and I haven't had any probs with any veggies or salads but grant you I haven't had all that you listed and I cook all of mine. I'd die without salads but as I get more in my band I may be restricted so much that I can't eat them...we'll see. Good luck.

Now you list corn as a safe veggie and I know that gives a lot of people trouble. It is very fibrous. Which basically means that you have to figure these things out for yourself as what works for someone else may not work for you and vice versa.

I can eat broccoli crowns, very tender, and I can, also, eat asparagus tips. Just remember to chew well and only the crowns will do for me! Best wishes, Karen

PS: I can't eat much salad, most lettuce gets caught!

i havent tried any other fruits apart from raspberries and bananas. Bananas didnt go down so well but the berries are great. I can eat lettuce, proccoli, spinach and asparagus though. How long is it since you were banded and how much restriction do you have now? i was banded in march and have 3 1/2 ccs in the band.

Trial and error, unfortunately.

I went through a period where my band was too tight for lettuce. I nixed that. Defeats the purpose.

I do have trouble with a good amount of fruits and veggies. My solvent has literally been to eat very small amounts, frequently. IE i can eat grapes... but only like 6-10 at a time. Same goes for green Beans, etc. If I have trouble with something (veggies) made one way, I'll try them another way. Most of the time I can figure out a way to make them easier to get down.

Freshly banned you have room for many veggies?

I can only have a couple of spoonfuls of veggies if I plan To get all my Protein in and stay at a cup of food.

I was told no lettuce because it gets stuck and iceberg does not have an nutritional value.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
