1 Week To Go And I Get Denied....

Recommended Posts

1 week till surgery and I get denied. because I'm not mentally stable.

Well I've had a stroke already. I've been being treated for depression for 7 years Its been 8 since my stroke, and I continue to be seen monthly. I'm medicated and I will provide you with a letter from a Psychatrist and LCSW indicating I am stable and will be successful.

I've done 6 months of nutrition classes I didn't have to do in which time I lost weight which was not required.

Insurance won't let us request auth unltil 1-2 weeks prior to surgery.

Oh what a pain. very upset but still sticking to my diet.

Dr. Office said if we don't get the approval by Aug 1 we will have to post pone 2 weeks which would mean a month of the semi-liquid diet argh.

trying to take deep breaths.

Sorry to hear of your challenges with insurance. Maybe your doctors office can help you appeal. There are places on internet to do an appeal process. The preop liquid diet probably isn't any fun at all, but think of all the weight you will have lost in that time frame! Good luck and we are here for you!

So the psychiatrist said you were stable and the insurance disagreed? Definitely appeal. Sometimes they just want to make us jump through hoops to make sure we're serious. I'm sorry that you're having to go through this...

That's so annoying!! :( Ive been seeing a counsellor for the last 2 years for depression and when I went to a private clinic i told them and they had to write to my counsellor and my counsellor PERSONALLY doesn't agree with any kind of gastric operations which and she won't write back to my surgeon and he won't preform surgery until she does :( luckily I had a sneaky idea to go with another clinic a told them I don't see a counsellor. I know it's wrong but what can I do? The only reason I see a counsellor is because of my weight issues anyway! :( hope you get sorted out. Best of luck.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
