worried about my best friend

Recommended Posts

My best friend had lap-band surgery about 6 months ago and lost alot of weight but, she smokes marijuana. Is this going to hurt her? Does anyone know the effects of marijuana on the lap-band?:cry

I would assume it is the same as smoking cigarettes. How in the world does she handle the munchies? Yeek that would be very hard!

I think the only thing I would worry about would be her getting the munchies and wanting to eat. I don't necessarily condone smoking marijuana, however, I don't see any more harm coming from smoking that than say regular tobacco cigs. Not that they aren't harmful, but you KWIM, it isn't crack or heroin. I have always thought it rediculous they never legalized it myself.

She said she doesn't get hungry! she just makes a smoothie or she eats yogurt and she's fine because she gets full really quick anyway. I just thought that would harm something in the long run. I use to smoke also and I got mad muchies! (LOL) I am about to get banded in 3 months and she says that she's fine. I was thinking of long term effects.

You know as for long term, I don't even know if there would be an data about something like that. In my opinion I wouldn't think it would be much different then anyone else. But, what do I know? lol

It means, she must be hungry because she's eating something ..the smoothie or yogurt as it may be.

PS. If she has the lap band that means she has problems with her weight, why would she want to risk her health even more by smoking....i mean...there is no surgery for decaying lungs or any of the other nasty side effects from smoking.....

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.

I have my final approval from my insurance, only thing holding up things is one last x-ray needed, which I have scheduled for the fourth of next month, which is my birthday.
