You should be fine swallowing them so long as you take them with plenty of Water. However the "gas" that causes postop pain is not in your digestive system so the gas X do not work (some swear by them so this could be a placebo effect). The gas is gas that was pumped into your abdominal cavity to make it easier for the surgeon to work. The best thing for this pain is prescription pain meds and lots of walking.

My surgeon said no more pills ever.

I think that's an overstatement. Maybe no time release pills ever. Not no pills at all. Small ones are ok after the immediate post op healing.

they make them in chewable's. unless your dr advises you to swallow pills, i recommend not too. (i crush my pills or break them into pieces now.). also, any capsules, ask your dr for specifics as sometimes those are not suppose to be broken (and i was also told that on time release).

try to stick w/chewables or liquids to be (safe).

all the best.

They said crush or chew all pills for me. I have been following what they say with no problem.

If your surgeon tells you not to swallow pills or capsules whole, don't do it, no matter what anyone else here tells you. Your surgeon presumably has a degree in medicine and experience in bariatric surgery. So far I haven't met any other LBT member who can honestly state that they are an MD.

According to every bariatric surgeon I've talked about this with, the consequences of swallowing pills or capsules whole are that the pill/capsule won't go through your stoma, so it sits there in your upper stomach pouch or esophagus slowly dissolving into a possibly corrosive chemical mess that can badly irritate or damage the surrounding tissues. So not only would you be injuring yourself, the medication that you need would not be making its way into whatever part or system in your body that needs it. You might as well flush that pill down the toilet. And throw in the contents of your wallet while you're at it.

Day 1 of pre-op liquid diet (3 weeks) and I'm having a hard time already. I feel hungry and just want to eat. I got the protein and supplements recommend by my program and having a hard time getting 1 down. My doctor / nutritionist has me on the following:
1 protein shake (bariatric advantage chocolate) with 8 oz of fat free milk 1 snack = 1 unjury protein shake (root beer) 1 protein shake (bariatric advantage orange cream) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein bar 1 protein shake (bariatric advantace orange cream or chocolate) 1 snack = 1 unjury protein soup (chicken) 3 servings of sugar free jello and popsicles throughout the day. 64 oz of water (I have flavor packets). Hot tea and coffee with splenda has been approved as well. Does anyone recommend anything for the next 3 weeks?

All I can tell you is that for me, it got easier after the first week. The hunger pains got less intense and I kind of got used to it and gave up torturing myself by thinking about food. But if you can, get anything tempting out of the house and avoid being around people who are eating. I sent my kids to my parents' house for two weeks so I wouldn't have to prepare meals I couldn't eat. After surgery, the hunger was totally gone.
